We stayed at this hotel in early September for 2 nights on our Trafalgar Tour through Europe. It was a lovely hotel, it is an old monastery converted into a hotel and it is located about a 20 minute drive from the centre of Rome. The rooms are very modern, clean & lovely with all the amenities you need. The bathroom is modern but only small; remember it was an old monastery so that’s why the rooms are small. The hotel has a lovely bar/café in the centre of the building out in the sun where you can sit and relax.
The drinks and light meals are very well priced.

Rome is an amazing city full of so much history it will blow your mind. Must sees: The Vatican including a visit to the Sistine Chapel & St Peter’s Basilica, visit the inside of the Colosseum, The Roman Forman, toss a coin in the beautiful Trevi Fountain, visit the Pantheon and have a meal in our favourite piazza the Piazza Novona it’s beautiful, and go to an authentic Italian restaurant and have as many courses as you can eat. Take a day tour or an overnight stay to the Amalfi Coast, it’s absolutely breath taking, it’s about a 3 hour drive by bus from the centre of Rome. The only disappointing thing about Rome is all the graffiti it’s everywhere and it was probably the dirtiest city we visited throughout Europe, but Rome has so many amazing monuments you really do look past it. We would go back and yes we would stay at this hotel again but only on a tour, if not a tour I would suggest staying closer to the centre of Rome. We came back to Rome for 4 nights after a Greek Island cruise and stayed at Hotel Canada. It was a great hotel and close to everything. I have put a review up on Hotel Canada.

The hotel is situated 45 minutes away from Rome, by car. We had a room with a view on a garbage belt of the hotel itself. The bathroom had a showerhead that was out of order. The room was quiet during night, so we had a good sleep. The housekeeping girls are not very friendly. The breakfast buffet was not very good.

This might have been a nice hotel .. but we would not know. We booked into the hotel specifically for the photos hoping it lived up to expectations. The location is poor as it is quite a way out of the city.
Upon arrival we were told that they had booked us into another hotel. They had obviously overbooked but there was no apology or consideration .. we were just summarily and rudely dismissed.
Not worth the effort really.

A little dubious after reading reviews on web site - we had booked via expedia and were concerned that we had paid so little for such opulance!!!!
No problems though, staff totally helpfull throughout. We did not eat at hotel and brought lunch to take out at the nearby supermarket :nb: buy your water here as six bottles only cost 1.16 euro and can be kept in the room mini bar. Also used local bars for that last beer of the night as they were much cheaper than the hotel.
We booked an excursion via reception to pompei which ran very well although we were just a little misled by the receptionist who had informed us we would be stopping at Monticasino - it was actually pointed out from the tour bus!!!!
Do not go to TIvoli on a Monday - the villa and gardens are closed. Dissapointing after the hot bus ride.
Look out for the beggers on the metro, they can be quite intimidating and we found it best to just ignore them.
We also found the closer you got to the centre of Rome the dearer the restaurants. Can recommend the International Students Bar which is close to the Pantheon, despite its name it is not full of students and the waiters were most helpfull.
Be careful if you use the internet in the room- a little misleading as it says it cost 6euro - this is each time you use it!!!!
To close this hotel was everything we had hoped for and would recommend.

I read many reviews before committing to stay at the Grand Hotel Palazzo Carpegna and I must say that on the average they were not misleading. The breakfast is stellar. A wide selection of meats- both hot and cold; many bread selections, a cappuccino/coffee maker, many fresh fruits, and plenty of cereal to help fuel you for a day of sightseeing. The best part: breakfast is free!

Many reviews complained about the location and the amount of walking and travel time that one incurs when going out. Being a fit twenty-two year old I disregarded their comments to save a few dollars. However, looking back, I probably would have spent a bit more to conserve some of the romance that was lost on the 20-30 minute metro/traffic dodging journey back to the hotel. It got old quick.

Other than that I can't complain much, but I'll try...the room was somewhat smaller than I had expected by looking at the pictures(the foot of the bed is, at most, 3 feet from the wall). I can't say that I put the service to the test but checking in and out produced nothing to complain about.

To end on a positive note I'll agree with many other reviewers and say that the surrounding garden and distance from the road(about 200 yards) gave the hotel a peaceful quality that shouldn't be undervalued in the hustle and bustle(by that I mean crazy Italian drivers) of Roma.
