While this was a beautiful hotel in georgeous surroundings we found it to be a hotel with just a room. The room was cleaned daily to a high standard and fresh towels provided. At night the corridors can be very noisy and you can hear toilets flushing and doors closing. All floors are marble and the noise echos.
There were no tea making facilities in the room. This may seem petty but on all our travels this is the first city hotel we have stayed in that this has happened. Hope this doesn't seem petty but that first cup of tea in the morning just starts the day off!!
Breakfasts were available from 6.30 each morning which allowed you to start the day off very early. Because of the wonderful sights of Rome you want to start early to avoid the queues which quickly start at the many attractions. There was a very good variety of food which got you off to a good start.
The hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the Metro which we used constently and were very surprised at how quickly we got the hang of it. We always headed in the direction of McDonalds and turned the corner home.
On arrival the staff were very helpful and courteous but when our telephone in the room was not working and we had a problem with our return flight home and asked to use the reception phone we were not allowed to as they would have no idea how much the call would cost - despite the fact that we were willing to pay for the call. I found this very cold and moneygrabbing. Advice to travellers top up your mobile phone.
Our accommodation was in C section and there was a notice not to use the lift. No instructions were given to use an alternative lift. We had 4 flights of stairs everytime we went to the room. It was on the morning of leaving that we discovered a lift around the corner from our bedroom. As there was renovation work being carried on we presumed that all lifts were out of bounds.
If going back to Rome we would probably stay in a hotel a little bit more central as being so far out meant once you got to the hotel and rested for a while you sometimes didn't feel like treaking out again.
