Hotel Madison was okay. We only stayed one night. It doesn't look quite like the pictures on the website. The decor is old and dingy. The elevators were very small. The hallways were like a dark maze. It's possible to get lost. The room was a decent size. It was clean. The lighting was dim and it was very stuffy in the room. The AC didn't work so we opened the window to discover a creepy courtyard. We were somewhat afraid because we heard dogs barking ferociously and a bird almost flew in. Therefore, we closed the window and tolerated the stuffy air all night. The bathroom was nice. Very clean and modern. The toilet was a little too close to the wall. My 5' 3" 125lb. body had to sit sideways. There was a sign next to the sink stating that the water was undrinkable. I'd recommend this hotel if you're not looking for luxury. Good location for tourists. Directly across the street from Termini. There were some shady people outside but it's safe as long as you're not alone.

The proximity of this hotel to the train station and the underground is great. However, it's kind of in a seedy area. There wasn't a day that went by that I didn't see some type of bio-refuse on the sidewalk in front of this hotel.

The front desk clerks were nice and the breakfast is good, but the air conditioning didn't work and we were in Rome in the middle of summer.

When we returned one day, they told us there had been a problem with our room, as a pipe had sprung a leak, so we were moved to it's sister hotel, a few blocks away. We were given directions and made to walk 2 miles away. The next day, as were checking out, the clerk said he lost our reservation and made us pay twice. We were in such a hurry to get to the airport, we just paid it and filed a claim when we got home. We still haven't got the issue resolved.

This hotel is not worth the trouble.

I would consider this hotel a 2 star for several reasons. The biggest problem I had with this hotel is the the water from the bathroom sink was not potable. There were signs stuck to the bathroom mirror that said not the drink the water. The other problem was the location of this hotel, right across from termini with all of the problems that ensue being right next to a major train station. This is my 4th trip in 4 years to Rome, first and last time at the Madison.

There's no doubt that this hotel is in a great location for access to the city. The main downtown area is an easily walkable distance but your also beside the main bus, train and metro station. The coach from Ciampino dropped us right beside the hotel.
On first glance, the hotel looks fairly grubby on the outside but inside it was pretty ok and I was surprised how nice the bedroom and bathroom were. During our stay we noted that the bathroom toiletries were being refilled each day rather than replaced. Also, the bins weren't always emptied each day. These are both minor complaints. The main issue I had with the hotel as after I left. When i arrived back in Dublin I realised I hadn't cleared the wardrobe before we left and I had left two expensive dresses behind me. I rang the hotel within an hour of arriving home and they said i'd have to call again in the morning which i did. i was sent from pillar to post and each person said that nothing had been found. When I asked about the room we stayed in they'd say nothing was found and would quote a different room number altogether. I called and called and called and it wasn't until i suggested to the receptionist that they must have been stolen that she suddenly said they had been found that very morning. My friend who lives in Rome collected the package from the hotel that day but when it was opened it was found to contain a t-shirt and skirt, obviously the lost property of someone else who may have been also trying to get it back. i can only assume that somewhere in Rome there is a woman the same size as me walking around in my two dresses.
