This is obviously a small hotel that cares about its customers and equally the staff enjoy having them stay. My wife and I spent 5 very pleasant days in Rome in November and were decidedly pleased with our choice of accommodation at the Aurelius. The hotel is well furnished with public areas dotted with statuettes and reproductions of Roman antiquities doubtless to emphasise one is in Rome, as well as to create a classical feel plus overall there was has a high standard of housekeeping. Personally we found the out-of-town location an advantage especially as the Cornelia Metro station, on Line A, is only two or three minutes walking distance away at the most (tip make sure you leave the station by the Piazza Irnerio exit), therefore transport to all the main sights is no problem. However; if your looking for the Rome of the tourist brochures then this is not the right place for you; but there are benefits being in busy suburbia. This is the everyday Rome most Romans know and for that reason there is a good range of very reasonably priced restaurants, take-aways and convenience shops that charge just the sort of prices the locals can afford, not the inflated traps designed to fleece the visitor in the mainstream tourist areas.
Our room was of a reasonable size, well heated and cosy – Rome can be chilly in November. It had a mini-bar, safe and to our delight a kettle for making coffee also there was an attractive mosaic tiled bathroom with shower. The only criticism was the small size of the television screen and no international satellite channels – but I don’t suppose one comes to Rome to watch TV all day. Wi-fi is free and OK plus supported by a house computer for guest use in the public area. The breakfast was worthy of a 5 star hotel with many hot options such as eggs and bacon, sausages etc. All-in-all recommended.
