My husband and I stayed at the Residenza Paola VI in May 2008 for a long weekend break, flying from Liverpool airport UK.
The hotel is located across a small, but busy road, aside to the St. Peter's Basilica, therefore it is a great location for visiting the Vatican museums and that area.
It is a strange hotel, in that you have to go up in a lift 3 floors until you arrive at the reception, and the hotel is located over 2 floors (I think!) of the building.
The reception staff were mostly friendly and helpful, and our room, despite being very small was nicely furnished and clean - I was aware of the room situation due to this web-site and decided to proceed as my husband and I were not on honeymoon and therefore would not be spending too much time in our hotel room!
The breakfast room was elegantly furnished and there was a good variety of food and the staff were extremely attentive and friendly.
The view from the roof-top terrace was stunning, although it is not 360 degree's as it is fenced off, therefore you can only sit by the entrance, but it is worth sitting out in the evening and taking in the views of the illuminated Basilica and surrounding statues. It was really romantic as the tables seat 2, and are candle-lit.
We had a fantastic time in Rome, and although we enjoyed our time at the Residenza Paolo VI, we spent very little time actually in the hotel, therefore value for money it definitely was not.
Would I go back to Rome again? Definitely. Would I stay in this hotel again - No; although we did enjoy the experience. Next time I would stay in central Rome, as it is easier to commute from there.
