This hotel was an excellent 2 star hotel. The staff are helpful and there is quite a good choice at breakfast of cereal, buns, croissants, cold meat and fruit.
The room we were in was excellent. It was really clean, we had no trouble with the bathroom and we were lucky to have a fridge.
The hotel is located about 5 minutes away from the nearest Metro which takes you right into the centre of Rome (which is beautiful).
Don't pay too much attention to the bad reviews as I did before we went. This hotel is a good choice if you don't want to pay too much and want to be within easy access of the City centre.

We read several reviews on venere.com and decided to stay here for one night after spending a night at the Hotel dei Mellini (about 220€ per night) to save some money. We were horribly disappointed. When we arrived, the room and reception looked nice enough, though it was a 25€ cab fare from Hotel Mellini so it is quite far from the center of Rome. The bed was hard and the springs were poking through the mattress. The shower was extremely small (even for Europe) and had mildew. The bathroom also smelled like feces. The air conditioning did not work and when we asked a technician to fix it, he attempted and said he did not know either. This has been a terrible heat wave in Rome and has been about 95 degrees, with no air conditioning. We suffered and sweat through the night and in the morning when we showered, the water was not going down the drain and the whole bathroom flooded. Housekeeping came in to fix it then told us we could use another room to shower. We did some sight-seeing and came back to find the hotel had been taken out because of major plumbing problems in our room and the room next door. Upon check out we were told that normally the air conditioning is only turned on during certain hours of the day. BEWARE!!!!

  • Liked — Free wi-fi, fantastic seafood restaurant down the street
  • Disliked — Poor quality, bad bathrooms, air conditioning and elevator did not work, location FAR from tourist areas

My husband & I were looking for a nice clean hotel to sleep in at the end of a busy day of sight seeing. The City Guest House met our needs and there was the bonus of very helpful front desk staff (map, directions, very good restaraunt recommendations).

We took public transportation (train, metro) from the airport and were a little disoriented when we arrived at our stop. A better map would have been helpful in finding the hotel, but we did find our way.

The Room: Spaceous, medium size shower, clean, no fridge, no hair conditioner (this is normal for most places I have been).

The Hotel: short walk to metro, quick ride into centre town, helpful staff, close to several good restaraunts, free internet in front lobby, ice machine not yet set up

Breakfast: 5E all you can eat canned fruit, coffee, juice, yogurt, meat, cheese, cereal, one croisont & one bun

Tip: We bought the metro pass as it meant we didn't have to worry about paying every day and we loved being able to hop on and off whenever we wanted

  • Liked — Affordable, but still easy to get into the heart of room.
  • Disliked — Would have loved a fridge in the room.

Excellent feedback from me. Having read what other people had written we had a very pleasant surprise to find the hotel modern, comfortable and welcoming. The lift worked perfectly so it didn’t matter what floors the rooms were on. Breakfast was available between 7 am and 9.30 am and was a completely self-service affair. No problem about refills of juice, coffee etc. There is also a vending machine selling “proper” coffee at 50 cents next to a small lounge area. The bathroom provided a hairdryer and yes, perhaps the shower is small if you are 13 stone, but it didn’t leak! The towels may not have smelled of “Comfort” but were perfectly white and changed each day – no need to take your own.

We chose the hotel as a balance between cost and distance from the city centre and were happy to use public transport with a week’s travel for E16. Seems very reasonable but perhaps we were a bit optimistic to think we could use a bus and metro from Ciampino Airport. It was very difficult with two large cases – but very cheap! We invested in a taxi for the return trip.

We had a great holiday in Rome and would be very happy to stay at the City Guest House Hotel again – especially if the weather is as wonderful.

  • Liked — Friendly and helpful staff - no problem when I fused the room's electric supply!
