My wife and I stayed at the River Palace Hotel over the Easter, and were expecting great things having read the reviews. We were not disappointed.
It's a magnificent hotel, true to Rome's architectural decorative splendor, yet with modern and classy furnishings.
We were offered an upgrade to the only suite in the building with a private balcony and hot tub for a discount, as the previous booking had fallen through. We gladly accepted, and it was magnificent with our every need being fully catered for. The panoramic views over Rome, The Vatican and the beautiful Villa Borghesi make this suite one of the best I've yet stayed in.
The location is just superb, right opposite the Villa Borghesi park, Flaminia Piazza del Popolo, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain with the main fashion shops just a few minutes walk away.
- Food was magnificent. The set six-course evening menu for 2 was quite simply one of the finest meals I have ever had.
Breakfast was very good and tasty, with a wide range of choice.
Staff were genuinely friendly and always cheerful and happy, without overdoing it.
All in all, I could only find 2 things wrong - first of all the creaky lift from floors 1-8 (which we got stuck in for 10 minutes) and the lightbulbs which didn't work on our balcony.
However, those things were minor distractions, and certainly not enough to detract from what was a truly wonderful vacation experience.
