Club Isola Sacra
Retired Australian couple. Travelling experience over 30 years.
Booked on Internet. Reason: Close to airport, shuttle bus, breakfast included. Much cheaper than
the Hilton.
Arrival impressions good except that it was raining and there is no roof over the car entry.
Large car park. Free short term.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Booked in fast.
One slow elevator. Allow for this at at peak times!
Room: Quite roomy but was supposed to be "non-smoking". Strong cig smoke smell. ie typical
Italian hotel room. Opened window for a while.
QS bed plus a single bed which was handy for storing our suitcases.
Has a large LCD TV (9 channels incl CNN), a safe, well stocked fridge, desk and plenty of clothes storage.
One problem: No spare power point, so had to unplug the fridge for the laptop. There are also no tea/coffee making facilities.
En-suite: Also reasonable size, clean and bright. Sports the usual bidet and a wall hair dryer.
BUT: No bath, no towel rails, no soap shelf in the shower, inadequate exhaust fan and one small clothes hook.
Lounge/bar/restaurant:
Small but neat area near reception. Seats about 60. Plus an outdoor area in fine/warm weather.
Had evening meal. Good menu selection. Priced a little above country town restaurants.
Service a little slow after 8pm, as most tables were occupied. Food is typically tasty but basic
and little flair for presentation. Don't order the steak, and if you have whole fish (eg Sea Bass)
watch out for them bones.
Noise:
No traffic noise, but being a Saturday night we had faint but thumping rock music from the reception
center next door until 10pm. Then we hit noise-hell. At midnight a returning drunken football team decided to noisily play ball down our corridor. Lasted about 10 minutes before they finally found their
rooms.
Internet:
One terminal near reception. Every room has a modem cable (?ADSL). They have a WiFi hot spot but only useable if you pre register with www.tin.it
Breakfast:
A very good enhanced-continental. (No hot food)
Shuttle bus:
A very efficient service to the airport or to Rome central. Runs mornings and late afternoons.
Tips: Book your seats ASAP and have your terminal number ready for the driver as bags (and passengers) are loaded in order. Costs 6 euros per person.
Checked out fast, but could have been a problem if caught up with a tour group.
Bottom line: We would stay there again. The devil you know.... (But not on a Saturday.)
