“A warm welcoming home away from home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2010

Spent 6 nights at the beautiful Capo D'Africa Hotel in Rome. Fabulous room, excellent friendly and courteous staff and superb location. We walked to all major attractions in Rome. The Manager, Massimo Piselli was expecially kind, helpful and made us feel at home. We will definitely be staying at this hotel on our next visit to Roma.

We were tired and cranky when we arrived at Capo d'Africa after the drive from Sorrento, with stops to tour Pompeii and the Abbey of Montecassino along the way. Our driver got lost in the city and took some time to find the hotel. However, when we finally arrived, our spirits were quickly lifted by the friendliness of the hotel staff. In short order we were checked in, shown to our room, and had reservations made for us for dinner at 3 Scalini, which was a wonderful dining experience. Capo d'Africa is in a quiet neighborhood near the Colosseum. Our room on the first floor was spacious and comfortable, with lots of closet space and a decent sized bathroom with a large soaking tub. Breakfast was quite good, and the service in the breakfast room was outstanding. We also enjoyed our view of the Colosseum from the breakfast terrace, and seeing it as we walked to Rome's many attractions from our hotel. Although not centrally located, Capo d'Africa is within walking distance of most major attractions, and if you don't want to walk, there's a Metro stop close by. The only time we used the Metro, though, was to get to the Vatican. There are several good restaurants near the hotel; in addition to 3 Scalini, we dined at Luzzi (excellent pizza), Na Machie (good pasta), and 313 Cavour (small plates), and we had excellent meals at all three. It was nice, after the hustle and bustle of city sightseeing, to return to an oasis of calm each night, and to have fine dining nearby. After seeing the crowds and congestion of the areas around the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon and Piazza Navona, we knew we had made the right choice in selecting Capo d'Africa as our hotel. If we go back to Rome, we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

When we arrived we were met at our car by the very helpful good natured Porter who grabbed our bags and took us straight to reception. The slim lady (Should have got her name she was so great at her job) at reception quickly booked us in and then gave us a map on which she circle all of the major attractions and Hotel. We were in our room within a few minutes of arriving and not left hanging around. The room was a good size and very neat, clean and obviously fairly new. The TV also has the Internet available which was handy as we don't carry laptops or stuff like that. We thought the breakfast was great although some might find it lacking in choice for cooked items. The breakfast staff were always keeping an eye out for items running out, empty tables that needed a clean tablecloth or supplying more tea or coffee. Breakfast was 6.30-11 am and we never turned up to find an uncleared dirty table from previous guests. The resturants around the Hotel were quiet different in prices and the Trattoria on the corner about 5 minutes walk away was an experience not to miss with great food.
Overall we had a great time the Hotel was friendly, very clean and the staff were always helpful. It is a 5 minute walk to the Colosseum and from there you can pick up the local transport links or jump on one of the Tourist buses which circle the main tourist sites all day.

Comfortable, clean and efficient, this hotel was a good place to stay for a long weekend. The beds were good and we had a quiet room - indeed the position of the hotel on a side street means it's generally peaceful. The only irritant was the constant piped pop music, especially annoying on a Sunday morning when you're breakfasting outside on the roof terrace when all you want to hear is the sound of bells! The waiter immediately switched it off when I asked, so don't be shy. Apart from this minor detail, it was a happy stay. Nearby are several good casual restaurants. Beware of having a drink overlooking the Colosseum - exorbitant!! 80euros for 4 drinks.

We spent four days in Rome and could not have chosen a better place to stay. While Capo d’Africa was the most expensive of the hotels we booked for our two-week trip to Italy, it was worth every penny, especially since we were able to take advantage of their “pay for 3 nights, stay for 4” package. The hotel is right near the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, but tucked away from the mad throngs of tourists in a quiet neighborhood. It’s also a mere 5 minutes away from the nearest metro station and the church that houses Michelangelo’s Moses (amazing!).

Our room with a king-sized bed was spacious and clean. We were on the same floor as the lobby and bar, which meant a bit of noise some nights, but we weren’t too bothered. We also had a large bathroom with a tub/shower combo. Water pressure was great. Housekeeping was on it: soaps replaced daily along with fresh towels. Hotel also provided sandals for the room, which is always a plus in my book since I am totally neurotic about hotel room hygiene.

Breakfast is served on their rooftop balcony; it’s a bounty of pastries, cured meats and eggs. Highly satisfying. There are two good and affordable dining choices nearby: “3” for pasta and “Luzzi” for pizzas. Unfortunately, you’ll be doing a bit of walking to get to the better places to eat, but that is the beauty of Italy’s famous cities: for the most part, you can and should walk everywhere.

And the front desk was helpful. We didn’t use them that much, but there was always someone behind the counter and available to call a taxi for us.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would return to Capo d'Africa again!

The hotel is located near the Colosseum, and we got to it from the main train station by taking the metro to the Colosseum stop then walking to the hotel. You could make the walk from the train station as well. The hotel is also close to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Some walking or other modes of transportation are in line for other sites such as Vatican City and the Pantheon.
The room was very nice, clean, and spacious. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and large enough. The bathroom was lacking a tub if that is something you are looking for.
The staff was very friendly and helpful with site seeing and dinner recommendations. They were also able to recommend the best way to get to each of these sites.

We stayed in Capo as the first part of our honeymoon. We were assigned a room on the ground floor which faced the back yard. The room was functional albeit bland. The package was a bit disappointing and not as nice as the four star hotel we stayed at when we returned to Rome in the same month (the Rose Garden). We found the staff unfriendly and the breakfast staff useless -there was a lot of them but they didn't make any effort to offer tea/coffee (their only function for a buffet breakfast) and seemed to fuss over the buffet unnecesarily (how many times can the cereals be re-arranged?!).
All in all we would not have any objection to this hotel had it not been for the maid(s) who threw away a stash of our plastic bags (which were not placed by the bin) without our consent the day before we were due to leave. One of the bags contained a tiny container for my camera charger. We also needed the bags to bag shoes etc. When we came back late at night (about 11-12pm) and this came to our attention we approached reception, the man at reception made a 'crazy' gesture vis a vis the maids and that was it! We have stayed in a number of hotels in the world ranging from 1-5 stars and we have never experienced maids who took it upon themselves to throw our belonginsgs away.
