Rome is an expensive city, not to mention dirty and smelly (what a shame!!!). If you stay in the city centre, be sure you're paying an arm and a leg for it eventhough your accomodation is only a basic 3 star hotel. Our hotel, hotel Milani is only a block away from the train station, so it's easy enough for us to walk.

We kept our un-used suitcase at the airport, they called it: left lugage (6 euro/day) and took the Leonardo express train from Fiumicio airport to the Termini Station in the central of Rome. We were rather impressed with the state of both (inside) the train and the station - at least they are clean(ish), yeah i know. 11 euro/person for the train ticket and it took about half an hour.

Passed the bumpy and smelly roads, we arrived at the hotel. It was rather nice. The staff're friendly and the lady who checked us in spoke very slow english - clearly she's trying to remember all the words in english (while talking to us). The lift worked well and clean and the marble staircase opposite the lift was so shiny -they love marble here in italy. The room itself was average. it was a very basic large room with a wardrobe, a (unfortunately) hard bed and a (thank god) good shower. TV is available in the room with most channels in Italian :)
Breakfast's on the ground floor and it was ok with a fab Italian coffee.

As I have said, it was all very basic and average and it cost us AUD666 for 3 nights 4 days, so if you can find somewhere else better and very central... let us know!

Milani hotel is located near Termini station so on your arrival to Rome, take the train!

When we arrived at Milani the receptionist was very kind and spoke proper English. He gave us the key to room 103. The room was medium as i expected (as you probably know European room are usually tinny). The room didn't have shower, only a douche, which was bit disappointment for me, because after a long walking day I wanted to cool down and relax in a bath. But in general I got whatever I need in the room, even when the TV was broken, I was given a new one instead.

Breakfast was great. Had all it takes to satisfy me. The waiter will bring you cappuccino, you just need to ask.

During our entire stay the receptionists where very kind and
helpful. Feel free to ask them for help. They know the city :)

The location of the hotel is great because it's close everywhere you need to go, just few bus stops to the main streets (such as del corso) and piazzette. I must admit that termini station is not a decent place to be at night. But you just take off from there so don't worry.

I also uploaded video about the hotel. For more information feel free to contact me.

situated 3 minutes walking distance from the roma termini station hotel offered us a newly renovated room which was spakling with granite slabs for luggage, a small sofa and 2 single beds instead of a double bed, we were told there are no double beds available but we could find one the next day. Our interest was to explore the city so we didnt care about this small inconvenience. Rooms are pretty big, very clean, and comfortable. The hop on hop off tour bus which takes you all over rome starts from right opposite the termini station so is just a 3 min walk to the bus stop. getting to the fco airport is a breeze with the airport express departing termini every 30 minutes from platform 24 costing Euro11/person. train takes 31 minutes to reach. You will see a lot of cats as you approach the hotel but they are harmless. we didnt find any homeless people or feel intimated at night near the hotel. if you walk straight down to the end of the street you will definitely see homeless people.
Hotel has free internet and that was a big bonus for us, check in staff was very helpful. Highly recommended.

Very nice 3 star hotel. Staff were ok helpful enough. Breakfast was ok but would have been better if they has some sort of bread to toast then it would have been better. Only down side about rooms was that there was no tea/coffee making facilities. The fact that this hotel is beside train/tram station is a big plus.

  • Liked — Cleanliness of room
  • Disliked — No tea/coffee making facilities in rom

We stayed in a standard room which was generally clean and had everything we needed. Room service was available with a 2euro surcharge which we didnt use. Breakfast was the usual fare of cold meats, cereal, fruit and bacon and eggs. Staff were helpful and provided a free map of the area which was indispensable! We walked almost everywhere but its proximity to Termini was a godsend when we arrived after a double flight! If you feel up to it walking is the way forward as you see all kinds of things that havent made it to the guidebook but are beautiful all the same. Would definitely stay again. Only downside was a patch of mildew above the shower but that was no big deal. Its definitely worth taking tour of the colosseum, costs around 20 euros but we got a guided tour of the colosseum and palatine hill. This is more than worth the money and you jump the queue which was at least an hours wait!

If you are feeling daring you can buy "dubious" handbags for about 20 euros most places but beware the fine for buying them is 10,000 euros!! Odd tip : Coffee shops require you to queue at till, pay for your drink/pastry etc and only then go and collect it! Dont forget this as they look at you with rolling eyes ;-)
