we found everything from the location ,to the very professional and friendly care and attention given by all the staff from arriving to departing made us feel welcome and glad to be in such a lovely hotel this was futher improved by the one EURO bus ride into central Rome

Romulus Hotel seemed too good to be true- and it was. At 36 euros a night for a 3 star, we thought we'd struck gold. Cheap it is, but 3 star- questionable. The main problem with this hotel is its profound bleakness. An oddly Soviet exterior- a character-less block- inside, its lobby, hallways and rooms emit a wave of depression. We observed other disconcerted tourists on a budget whispering outside the doors, but alas, the policy is strictly no refunds/no cancellations.

Sitting outside the highway, its in a dismal industrial area with prostitutes on ever corner and absolutely nothing around- no restaurants, shops, grocery, etc, but a quick bus route into Rome, which is convenient. It was somewhat misadvertised, the website stating there is a lovely garden and good restaurant, as well as an airport shuttle (no shuttle). Our window opens onto an empty lot with junk strewn about. The rooms are awfully decorated.

It is cheap, it's not too far outside of Rome but even spending as little time as possible in the hotel, in the end, the savings didn't make up for the depressing atmosphere of the place. If we had spent our whole trip staying in this hotel, it would have ruined it.

After making reservations online for this hotel, the next day, our reservations were cancelled with the explanation that there are no rooms for the dates we wanted to stay. Ok, no problem, make reservations at another hotel....however, 3 days later, a charge for 250 euros appears on our card with an email that a mistake was made and in fact rooms are available and now a brand new non-refundable reservation has been confirmed. So, after cancelling our initial reservations and admitting to it, the hotel STOLE 250 euros from our bank account and made brand new reservations for us. USE EXTREME CAUTION IF YOU WISH TO STAY HERE AS THEY ARE THIEVES!

Reception staff was very friendly, always quickly available, and could help us out on our queries. The bar was open late at night, allowing us to take a night cap. Although hotel is at outskirts of Rome, transport to and from the center was easy through either bus - stops just aside the hotel - or using the free hotel shuttle. The room + bathroom was very clean and had good working airco. The blinds did not go up the first day, but was immediately fixed after we informed reception!. I would use the hotel again if I would go back to Rome.
