“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

It’s a small trek to get up there from the centre but very much worth it. There is a beautiful little church Basilica di Santa Sabina that is very quaint and pretty. The orange groves next to it have a fantastic view across the City from St Peters to the synagogue and the roman forum and colosseum. And a beautiful tree lined walk away is the knights of Malta keyhole. Giving a beautiful framed look at St Peters . Well worth the walk!!!

“Most charming and relaxing neighborhood in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2014

Aventine Hill is fabulous for relaxing stays in Rome. There are several charming and reasonably priced hotels in the neighborhood, several beautiful churches, good restaurants within walking distance, and fantastic views of Rome from many vantage points. Don't miss the "keyhole view" (ask locals if you can't locate it yourself!). One of my favorite areas of Rome!

“Beautiful view / relaxing spot / time out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2014

we took a rest of hours of walking in this beautiful garden. it smells of oranges and they hang on every tree (the don't taste good ;-) )... we took a nap on the grass and were relaxing there for about 1 hour! there weren't many tourists - all quiet and beautiful!

“Lovely Neighborhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

We stayed in this neighborhood with friends for a few nights and delighted in walking around. The rose garden is expansive and beautiful. Lovely houses and embassies. Be sure to look through the keyhole. Close to Circo Massimo.

“Off the beaten path”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

This is a wonderful little area off the beaten path. Take the time and locate the keyhole and Piazza Fiorenzo Fiorentini with the great view point and quiet park full of oranges, a water fountain and benches for foot weary guests.

Yes, this area was a bit difficult to locate due to poor directions but it is very near Circus Maximus and a lovely Rose Garden at the foot of the hill. Just ask your fellow travelors and they will point you the right way.

Once at the door, peer through for a glorious view of the Basillica. We were lucky to be at the door when it opened! Please see the attched pictures of the hedgerow. I wonder if the doorway was designed to have the Bascillica view, or if it was just happenstance? Please have patience with your fellow travelors, the shot requires some effort to achieve the effect. Takes a bit of time to underexpose the shot.

FYI, the Rose Garden at the base of the hill, has the most filthy WC in all of Italy! But in an emergency it is usable...just remember your TP and antibacterial soap!
