Arco di Tito — the Arch of Titus

Titus (AD 41 - 81) followed his father, Vespasian, as emperor in AD 79 but ruled for only 2 years.

His major accomplishment — and the reason the arch was built — was the destruction of Jerusalem. Titus’s success brought to an end a campaign his father had begun in AD 66.

This marble triumphal arch is located on the Via Sacra and it was constructed by Emperor Domitian shortly after the death of his brother Titus.
