Stayed at the Ludovisi with a Globus tour group. We checked in a day early. The staff was extremely helpful in particular Alesandro. He gave directions to the subway station, and explained how to get around. It was lunch time and he recommended a great local restaurant.
The next day it was raining and the staff suggested we got to the Capital museum which is near the Forum. After the museum it had stopped raining and just a short walk to the Forum and Colisseum. A subway station is just accross the street so an easy cheap trip back to the hotel.
The room was small but very comforable. Clean bathroom and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was very good with a nice selection of meats, cheeses, sweets, eggs (Italians do not do eggs well, very runny scrambled eggs but that was the same at every hotel).
Excellent location, only minutes from Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Villa Borghese, and the American Embassy. Subway station is very close. Everything is downhill though, Rome is very hilly, seven of them. Good reasonable restaurants around but stay away from the Via Venetto area, near the American Embassy as it is expensive.
We enjoyed our time here and would definitely stay at the Ludovisi Palace again.

My husband and I were planning a trip of a lifetime to take my parents to Rome in celebration of my Dad's 80th birthday, followed by a cruise to the Greek Isles. I was told that the hotel was 4 star which I thought would mean it would be above average. All of us were stunned and disappointed when we arrived for our 3 night stay. I should have known immediately there would be problems when I saw the front door was missing the "P" in the lettering for Palace...the entire property appeared old, dated, shabby. The stairway up from the street to the reception area was covered in dingy carpet that was pulling up on the sides. Rooms tiny, cramped, with absolutely NO space to put any luggage. Closet? Not enough to hold more than 3 or 4 hanging items and no room to store anything. Beds were hard as nails and pillows were cheap foam. The staff was distant if not totally disengaged from their guests. Despite the good location we were totally miserable and had we been booked there for longer we would definitely have moved.

We just came back from our trek through Rome and it was magnificent. We stayed at Hotel Ludovisi Palace and we were always treated well. The receptionists were great and gave us great advice on where to go. The porter took care of our bags. Always treated with a smile.

Morning breakfast was good. Bacon, ham, cheese and eggs were the hot dishes. Variety of bread, pastries, fruits and cereals were the cold dishes. Got to choose from water, milk, oj, pineapple juice and grapefruit juice, as well as hot teas, coffees and hot chocolate. Just ask one of the waiters and they can fix you up cappuccino, espresso or hot chocolate.

Location was good. We usually took the bus to most of the places we visited and there were stops just around the corner to take us to our desired destination. I recommend the BTI, 3 day pass for only 11 euros. It was a good buy.

Also near the hotel is Villa Borghese, beautiful park, highly recommended!

The rooms were small and the hotel is badly in need of refurbisment. There were cracks on the walls of our room...and the bathtub leaked from the bottom. The staff was friendly enough - but they did nothing
to help us find another room in the hotel. In fact...we checked out early and went to another hotel. I would not recommend this hotel at all.

We stayed at the Ludovisi Palace in Rome for three days recently. I had a difficult time finding a hotel that could accomodate a family without booking two rooms, which would have been prohibitively expensive in a central area. The Ludovisi is within easy walking distance of Via Veneto, the Spanish Steps, Borghese Gardens, and Trevi Fountain; a bit more energy gets you to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Rome is best experienced on foot so we wanted to be in a central, safe location. A bus stop across the street provides service to the Vatican City area. The hotel is nothing fancy, no grand lobby or restaurant, but it is located on a very nice, fairly quiet street - off the main road but just around the corner from Via Veneto. The room was clean and comfortable, not large by any means but not cramped either. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for an Italian property and even had a bathtub, rather than just a stand up shower. Most importantly for us, the room had two double beds - a rarity in Italy - which allowed our family to stay together. The front desk staff was helpful if not overly friendly, which we found was typical throughout Italy. In general Italians are polite, but distant - they'll help if asked but don't go out of their way. Breakfast was decent if not anything special, though my kids were excited to see bacon and eggs in addition to the usual breads, cereals, fruit, juices and yogurt. A hotel room in Rome is just a place to sleep and shower, hopefully in safety and comfort, and the Ludovisi certainly fits the bill in that regard.
