“Simple, Good Roman Fare”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Five of us booked a table outside on the street on a warm summer's evening. San Lorenzo is a great neighborhood teaming with young people, colorful locals and outright eccentrics. Service was friendly, and it helped that one of our party was a regular. We ordered bottled water and house wines (red and white) which were fine. The pastas were good - tasty. One of our party skipped the pasta and ordered grilled squid - also excellent. Seconds included grilled quail, which was superb and salads. Two of our party ordered dessert - pine nut tart and pistachio tart: also good. We finished the evening off with coffees and a round of amari. The bill for 5 was €125 including the tip. We were entirely satisfied with our meals. It was like eating in your Roman mother's kitchen.

“A good old fashion trattoria”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2012

This is a workers restaurant close to the Termini Station and to the University campus. You will find the authentic popular dishes cooked by the mamma while the rest of the family is serving the tables. Some of the items in the menu are difficult to find elsewhere: zuppa di broccoli (broccoli soup), pasta e ceci (pasta and cickpeas), lingua bollita (boiled tongue), pollo coi peperoni (chicken and peppers). Very honest prices. They resisted to all the modern temptations and this is what I like in this place, Don't ask for an English menu but rather bring a dictionary with you.

“A taste of the real Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2012

San Lorenzo is a traditional working district of Rome, now home to many students, and if you're a tourist you're unlikely to find yourself here unless you are staying close to Termini station, from which it is a not very pleasant walk. We were delighted to find such good value so close to the centre of a capital city - three course plus wine, water and coffee for two came to under 50 euros. Yes, the decor is a bit down at heel, but it is more than made up for by the opportunity to eat with an almost exclusively local clientele (an American couple were the only other visitors the night we were there) and all the atmosphere that implies. Don't expect an English language menu but all the traditional specialities are reliable and there is a particularly good range of vegetable contorni. The bar next door, where we enjoyed a beer beforehand, is astonishingly cheap.
