“Good location, rude owner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2007

This "hotel" is not a hotel, the name says it, "Residenza". It is part (7 rooms )of the second floor of a building in a good location of Rome (P. Navona). As far as I can tell it's as close to a bed and breakfast as you'll ever find, just don't tell the owner. He very rudely explained that we were lucky to even BE there, that it's very exclusive and he doesn't rent to just anybody (what does he do, a background check?) MY opinion- it's a bed and breakfast - it's adequate and has a good location - THAT'S IT, end of story, it's not fancy, it has no amenities, (you lug your suitcases unto the elevator and lug them off yourself, no room service, no laundry service, etc.) the breakfast is adequate and so was the price (sort of, 165 Euro a night).

2006 Nov. Be honest with your expectations. This is a basic, centrally located hotel on a main road in front of a very busy bus stop - the area is quite noisy. Slept with the windows closed. After the first night, fatigue solved the noise problem. We found the 50F ambient temp warm, thus the room felt "hot". Meanwhile the Romans were in heavy coats. There is no "lobby", one is renting a typical European room. Immaculate. Small shower with ample hot water. Roll, juice & coffee for breakfast at a small common table. A sincere staff maintains distance unless some assistance is requested - it felt very private. The area is safe, one minor, if obvious, pick-pocket approach over a four day stay. ("Is this your ring? I found it....") The Campo di Fiori market is five minutes away and a daily stop for fruit & bread. There is a small grocery by the Pantheon. Navona or Pantheon for the late evening sit. Zio Ciro Mangianapoli (yellow & orange) just north of the Pantheon for a cordial, affordable & tasty sit-down meal. We walked everywhere, & constantly, but could have bused. I hope to stay here again.

we checked out of a 5 star indisgust - the Zanardelli were our rescue - great location, courteous (if not chatty) staff, very clean, nicely appointed rooms. Everything it says on the tin! The location if just perfect - just off Piazza Navona - air con, large room, shower-room (no bath), reasonable breakfast - would stay again - no question, and would highly recommend!

The manager of the hotel was so incredibly rude to my husband and me that we left after the first night. We planned on staying 4. I have never left a hotel where we had reservations. The majority of my travel experiences in Italy have been wonderful, so I was shocked by how poorly we were treated. It seemed as though the hotel was so popular that they were not worried in the slightest about how they treated people.

Stayed here for a week with my 2 teenage children. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, found the staff friendly and helpful, and the room good. After all, in Rome you're not going to spend time in the room, except to sleep and change your shoes! We walked everywhere (St Peter's, colosseum, Villa Borghese, Trevi fountain etc. etc.) from here, easy walking and very safe. The detailed map was useful, the dining room cosy, and friendly to share with other guests. Easy to exchange tips and ideas for visits over the bread rolls! The paper cups for the orange juice were not a worry. Don't stay here, however, if you are a light sleeper. It is in the very centre of Rome's Centro storico, and is an old buidling, so no modern double glazing to keep out the sounds of Roman life. If you keep walking, you'll be too tired to notice!
