We went to Rome on a whim so we had no reservations or idea of where to stay. When we arrived in the Termini station from the airport we only knew that there were many places to stay nearby. We used the tourism service, Enjoy Rome to help us find a place for the weekend. Our requirements were only that we be able to have access to a kitchen. We stayed 3 nights in Fawlty Towers in a double room. What made our stay so enjoyable was the patio adjacent to the kitchen and common room. In the evening after sight seeing all day we had a lovely place to relax, have a drink and eat inexpensively. Meeting other travelers doing the same was also a highlight.

We usually sleep with the window open. Fawlty Towers is located on a side street so there is limited traffic noise. It really was the most quiet of all our hotel stays this trip. Our room was comfortable with a double bed and a shower. The toilet was down the hall. We were on the floor above the reception and common areas. There was a free internet PC and WiFi as well.

The location was 1 block from the Termini station where there was a shopping complex, fast food and a grocery store. Within 3 blocks there were loads of places to eat. We could jump on the metro in five minutes and be at any tourist location in no time. In the evening we could stop at the grocery in the station and grab a rotisserie chicken, some prepared pasta, salad and a bottle of wine for an inexpensive dinner.

If we ever return to Rome we would stay here again. The staff is super.

Had to have an overnight room after our flight in from Germany before we could get into our other lodging. Chose this one as one of the cheaper ones close to the train station. Definitely paid for it. The bathroom smelled horrible and was covered in a 1/8" layer of water over the whole floor. Our room opened up to a common area with a window that did not lock. Extremely noisy, dirty room. I'd stay here if I absolutely had too but no more than a night. Went directly to our next hotel and showered afterwards.

Reading the reviews now for Fawlty Towers I can't believe I stayed at the same hotel. I came to Rome a couple of weeks ago and had a relaxed and overall pleasant experience. I have to say I am a huge fan of the television show Fawlty Towers and the name of this hotel did catch my eye. For a budget hotel I found the value top notch. I came with my niece who just graduated from college and the environment was youthful, social and fun. They have a wonderful terrace. On our last night we came back after a long day of touring and had lots of laughs at their weekly bbq.

After a delay on the train coming from Arezzo to Rome we were tired and picked the name of Fawlty Towers out of an old 'Rough Guide'. Things have gone downhill since they recommended it. Imagine a place run by Basil without the steadying hand of Sybil - yes, it is even worse than the fictional Torquay model! And not at all cheap at 80 euro a night for a double. We felt sick when we talked to other travellers and found out we were paying at least 30 euro over the odds. Neither the TV nor the air-con worked, the first room they tried on us had not even been made up (to the extent that a tip for the cleaner was still on the bedside table) and the decor was tired to say the least. The only plus point was the friendliness of the staff.

The worst hotel I have ever set foot in!!!! Air conditioner didn't work, fan didn't work[although I didn't think I wanted it to as it was so dirty]. Kitchen was not clean, no hot water for cleaning, no dishes that looked clean enough to eat off. We booked a triple bedded room and we got what looked like 3 army cots with about 6 inches of space between them. There wasn't even room for each of us to open our suitcases. The bathroom was awful. There wasn't a shower cubicle just a shower head on the wall and an open drain hole on the floor. Water would go everywhere and there was about enough room to stand on one leg with the other in the toilet. We complained, no one seemed to care so we moved to another hotel but didn't get the 99 euros we had paid back. This hotel would have spoiled our trip to Rome. it was just horrible.
