I can't understand the negative comments about this hotel. Sure the area is a little marred by the large amount of graffiti on the walls but travelling around rome you quickly see that this particular social blight is everywhere so to use the local 'decoration' as a reason to complain against a hotel is a bit beyond the pale. Having booked the hotel for my honeymoon I think you can appreciate that i was looking for perfection, We elected to have the hotel arrange a driver to pick us up from the airport. Dressed in a suit, and driving a mercedes. more importantly it took the stress out of arriving in a country as we were delivered to the hotel in a timely fashion. The breakfasts were more than adequate, rolls, ham, cheese, cereal, croissants and other pastries, yoghurts fruit juices, scrambled egg and a choice of what coffee you wanted ( rather than a jug of stewing filter coffee) and it was lovely to sit out in the courtyard eating breakfast. the staff were all very polite, spoke excellent english, and were happy to suggest restaurants or tours which might be of interest. The rooms ( we had a double ) were all clean with aircon, tv, and phone as well as a nicely appointed ensuite bathroom. Despite trastavere being a busy area for nightlife it never interfered with our sleep as in the hotel santa maria you are always a little cloistered away from the outside world. The day we left we asked for a taxi to be arranged to take us to the station. The taxi was there, on time, and got us to the station with litle delay. It was little things like this which really made us appreciate this hotel. All in all, when we go back to rome we will be staying here. I cant recommend it enough.
