“A resort getaway, right in the middle of it all”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

This place is fantastic. We will stay here if we are ever lucky enough to get back to Rome. The location is perfect (right in Trastevere -- an easy walk to plenty of sights). However, it's an oasis of calm. After being out in the hustle and bustle of Rome, it was fantastic to get back to this place to unwind. The daily happy hour in the beautiful courtyard is a great touch. Breakfast is amazing. The staff members were friendly, kind, helpful and didn't seem to mind my poor attempts at Italian. This place is a gem.

We always consult our guides "Show" before going on a holiday destination. It has never disappointed us - Hotel SANTA MARIA is obviously on his list was prominently -
It is very pleasant to visit a beautiful city like Rome and return in the evening in a quiet place, enjoy a good glass of wine under the orange before returning to Trastevere for a pleasant evening

Room Tip: all the rooms are quiet - that's a little structure in a garden (in fact it's depend on the...

Great location, easy access to tram and busses.
Breakfast and happy hour are under an orange grove.
Plenty of good Restaurants and shops but not touristy. Great wifi and air conditioning.
A few block from the river.

Santa Maria is a peaceful oasis in the pulsing Trastevere.
Under the orange and lemon trees in the courtyard of the hotel it is easy to relax.
Especially in the late afternoon the friendly personal offers you good wine and snacks to start a wonderful evening in Trastevere.
We will come back - for sure.

We stayed 3 nights at the Santa Maria Hotel in a quadruple room ( king size and bunk beds-room 2) for my husbands 50th birthday in July.
The room was clean and adequate and the air conditioning worked well. The bathroon only had a shower, no bath, but for 3 days this was fine. The staff were great, very helpful and very friendly and put a bottle of Proseco sparkling wine in the room free of charge as it was a birthday trip.
Breakfast was adequate and we ate in the courtyard under the orange trees. We also sat out for Happy hour at 5.30pm and although the drinks were not cheap they provide some nibbles to go with them free.
Most sites were easily accessed by walking(20-30 mins) and we used the hotel bikes ( free) to cycle to the catacombs via the Appian Way ( about 8km)
The hotel is gated and accessed via small cobbled streets and squares. Restaurants are expensive and you pay for the view in Rome. Side streets have same food at lesser prices.
Overall an excellent stay and would recommend the hotel without hesitation.

We have now stayed twice at this lovely gem of a place hidden in Trastavere. It is only 3 star, but feels like more, but for the front desk staff, who are not as helpful as they could be. HOWEVER, Malina at the front desk was fantastically warm and helpful and beyond hospitable. One minimal complaint is that, once the breakfast food is put out it is not refilled, so if there is no fruit left, no more will be coming. BUT the rooms are clean, the place is lovely and Trastavere is a great place to stay.

Hotel Santa Maria is a very romantic, lovely gem hidden away just steps from the Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. What a pleasant surprise. All rooms face a lovely courtyard filled with orange trees. Trastevere is a fabulous neighbourhood with alot of local character.
I would highly recommend this neighbourhood and this hotel.
The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was good.
After a long day walking the streets of Rome this hotel is a delightful respite. Enjoy a glass of wine in the courtyard after your long day. Life doesn't get any better!

Room Tip: The rooms all face the lovely courtyard, You may want to ask if there is a quieter area as we were...
