“Wonderful Charming Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2011

My wife and I recently stayed 6 nights prior to joining a cruise. This is a charming hotel in the Trestavere area of Rome. Quiet, serene and welcoming with a courtyard of orange trees, excellent breakfast buffet and evening hor d'ouervres. The staff is friendly and responsive to your needs. Located a short walk to Piazza Santa Maria and the church where there are great restaurants and an active nightlife. The hotel is surrounded by many shops, restaurants, cafes and gelato stops yet is very quiet and serene. The rooms for 2 are small, clean and comfortable. We will definitely stay again on our next trip to Rome.

We stayed for 3 nights at this beautiful property. The location is perfect, as you can walk to all of the interesting sites, then come back in the evening and have your choice of dozens of great restaurants. Our room was very large, with a separate front room that also had a television and extra bed; there was also a patio, where we could sit in the sun. The other rooms surround a nice courtyard. One small wish for next time would be for some softer pillows.

We very much enjoyed our 5 nights in November 2011. Terrific breakfast to start each day before setting out to walk to all the sites in Rome. The Trastevere section of Rome has many great restaurants. We enjoyed the bells of the nearby church ringing the time every 15 minutes. We will surely come back.

Room Tip: We had room # one which was around in the back of the main courtyard with it's own private outdo...

We are a family of four ,our girls are 12 and 7 , We stayed at Santa Maria for 4 nights .We booked here reading the reviews on trip advisor .Much has already been said about this charming hotel. It was the ideal location for us. The Trastevere is a lively and quaint neighbourhood and this hotel is behind secure gates with a lovely courtyard filled with orange trees and tables to have breakfast and drink wine in the evening .The room was well done up ,with bunk beds for the kids, my younger one loved that .It was quite spacious for us .it felt great coming back here in the evening after a tiring day of walking around Rome. It is close enough to walk everywhere. The staff was very helpful and courteous ,from the front desk to the breakfast room. They made us feel very welcome. The breakfast was excellent and a good start to our day... Felt good with our choice of hotel and will most certainly come back here .Thank you to everyone at Santa Maria .

Much has been written about this lovely hotel, but after 6 nights we had gotten to know the staff, from housekeeping to the breakfast room/ wine bar servers. On our last day, Antonio at the front desk phoned a cab and even walked us to the gate. We can't say enough about this quiet hotel. A former convent, its rooms face lovely courtyards and look up to private apartments resembling a movie set. We couldn't wait to return to the Santa Maria every night after touring the sites of Rome. We agree with the reviewer, Wike, we will never stay anywhere else in Rome!

We stayed 5 nights in November 2011. Found the staff welcoming and loved the charming courtyard with tables where you can enjoy breakfast or end the day with a glass of wine. Breakfast offerings were excellent. The yummy complementary snacks at 5.30pm daily were a welcome treat after walking all day. Felt really lucky to be able to leave the crowds of Rome behind and walk through the gates of the hotel to such a tranquil setting. It's a great location -you can easily walk everywhere from the hotel.

Room Tip: Loved the hotel but don't expect fancy linens!

We are a family of 5 and spent 4 nights in this wonderful tranquil place. Behind secure gates there is a lovely courtyard where we relaxed every afternoon after spending the day walking Rome...and yes you are close enough to everything from here. We walked to Trevi Fountain, colosseum and Vatican city. Our room had loft which the kids (12,10 &8) loved as well as the complimentary snack every afternoon. Breakfast good & plenty of travel references books to look thru. Staff always happy enough to offer suggest & book a table for dinner. We will stay there again.
