Arriving by bus from Ciampino, we just needed one night before our regular hotel reservation started. On Priceline we had tried for another hotel, and received Hotel Contilia instead. ($113) A pleasant surprise, it was a quick walk from Termini to the hotel, and the little elevator made the 5th floor room quite nice, as we had a view of the courtyard across the street. Although Termini was a traffic nightmare, the hotel's street was quiet with little traffic. Bathroom was small, but air conditioning was fine, and all looked clean. Not stylish decor, a little dark with the shutters closed, but the marble floored lobby felt quite Italian. They also have free wifi, which worked fine.
Breakfast was also a pleasant surprise, with a buffet of great bakery goodies, butter, nutella, jams, cheese and salami, juice, yogurt, cereals, and coffees & teas.
Piazza Maggiore was just a block away, and we walked to dinner at Restaurant Target, a Rick Steves recommendation, about 6 blocks away. If we were arriving at Termini again, it would be a great overnight stay. We liked the location of our other hotel better, but for the price this was fine.
