Having read the reviews on tripadvisor for this hotel we were not disappointed what a fantastic hotel in Rome 5 of us went to Rome for my mothers 70th birthday we stayed at Hotel Madrid for 3 nights 6th - 9th March 09 we had 1 triple room and one twin room rooms were spacious and exceptionally clean. Staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful location was fantastic within walking distance of Spanish Steps and Trevi fountain and main shopping area.Breakfast was very good much better than we thought it would be. We also booked the minivan through the hotel to pick us up at the airport this was £75 euro for 5 of us which is good for Rome and the driver was there to pick us up and wasn't a maniac on the road!

We loved Hotel Madrid. Location was excellent. Within walking distance to everything. Staff very helpful. Hotel breakfast is included and good. Cappuccino at breakfast was incredible. We were there over New Years with our children ages 8 and 11. Hotel fit the four of us perfectly. We had a room with two single beds and a queen. Big bathrooms (for Europe).

I was looking for a hotel in a safe area for our family as we knew we would be walking back with our teen daughters at night. This was a perfect location - near all of the high end designer stores and the Spanish Steps. It really felt safe because there are so many people out looking at the shops, eating at the many restaurants, and taking pictures of the beautiful fountains in the area. This hotel is also convenient to everything - the metro is nearby, a taxi stand is on the corner, but you can also just walk with one of the tourist maps they give you. I was surprised to see how walkable Rome was. What looked like a long walk was only about 15 minutes. The staff was very helpful, I liked the system of leaving your key at the front desk (no worries about losing it), they made great coffee and hot chocolate in the morning, the breakfast was nice and the rooms were a bit bigger than most of Europe. Also, the bathrooms were either brand new or super clean. The shower/sink/floor/toilet looked like they just bought them new from the showroom. It was also a bigger bathroom than those we've had in other cities in Europe. There was some street noise, but if you closed the windows it blocked it out really well. We were on the 1st floor, so being higher probably would have helped also. I would recommend this hotel - it was convenient to everything and the area was a good one. They also arranged our transportation to and from the airport in a van (because we had a lot of luggage) - so that was convenient and on time both ways.

This hotel is conveniently located near the Spanish Steps, the various ride-around-tourist buses,and the subway. The roof dining room is lovely. The hotel was very helpful in securing reservations for museums (except the Vatican, which doesn't work with anyone except the scalpers) and saved us a lot of hassle.

I recommend this hotel highly,with two caveats: there are some groups of 2or 3 steps when you enter ---may not be suitable for some people; also many of the local restaurants cater to tourists - ask the conceirge for suggestions.
