“Great Location Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

We needed a hotel for our last night in Rome. While walking around shopping we found Hotel Madrid. They were very nice and showed us a room. This hotel is small and not fancy but still very nice. The rooms are very clean, there Internet was great ( if you book with them directly it is free). Also if you book directly your rate is less. The night before we arranged with them to get us a taxi to airport in morning and taxi was there at door right on time next day. The hotel is right in the middle of shopping district and restaurants. It was also close enough that we walked to the Vatican. (About a1/2 hour easy walk) when asking for directions the hotel staff was great and drew everything out on map for us.

Simple hotel, but clean and more than adequate. There is so much luxury and sightseeing within walking distance; why spend more on larger or more luxurious rooms? This location, right in de middle of the shopping area and just one minute from the Spanish Steps is unbeatable. Good value!

Room Tip: a room on the steet side is fun but more noise

Traveled with my husband and 3 sons, (a teenager and 2 in their early 20's). This hotel has a great location near the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, shopping and lots of other cool places. We walked to the Vatican and Colosseum. We all were able to stay together in a spacious 2 bedroom 1 bathroom suite. The room was quiet, clean, stayed cool and the beds were comfortable. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The best part for us was the complimentary rooftop breakfast which had everything from fruit to eggs to a variety of pastries. You can see the Vatican Dome while you dine. The lady who worked in the breakfast room was fabulous, efficient, pleasant and she made us cappuccinos and espressos every morning.:

I stayed at Hotel Madrid in Rome with a friend. We had two different double rooms (beginning and end of trip to Italy) and though small, both were clean, comfortable, and cool. The location is ideal for exploring the city on foot and there are lots of nice restaurants nearby. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast offered a great selection: from yogurt, fruit and pastries, to hot eggs and ham. We especially loved the freshly made cappuccinos and cafe lattes! The only frustrating thing was the hit-and- miss Wifi. Even when it appeared I had full Wifi strength, often I would not be prompted to give my login and therefore, could not access the internet. This was especially frustrating as the Wifi was not included in the price of the room. That was the only glitch, however. Otherwise, the location and service at Hotel Madrid was wonderful and I would happily stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. We had reserved a triple room and we were given room 101. That room has a weird shape and also no sunlight. It has a windows which opens into the closed quadrangle of the hotel. However when we spoke to the front desk asking for a different room if possible, we were upgraded to junior suite room 106..which was very nice. Spacious and airy.
Otherwise our stay was very pleasant.
Superb location. There are a lot of good eateries around the hotel and also nice supermarket despar very close by.
Would like to make a special mention of Mr. Antonio at the front desk who was extremely helpful..be it in guiding us around or of any other assistance.
yes...felt it is a Lil expensive....but I guess the location commands that rate. Overall we had good satisfying stay.
oh...not to forget the nice roof top breakfast area. The lady there is extremely pleasant.

Room Tip: Room 101 has no sunlight. However room 106 was very good.

We stayed at Hotel Madrid for four nights. The location is superb. So close to Spanish Steps and Spagna Metro stop. We walked everywhere and to all the major sites including Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Pantheon, Vatican and a really good market at Campo de Fiori where we picked up pesto and olive oil. You can also find some beautiful accessories there too.

Despite the hot weather, I would recommend walking everywhere as this is the best way to see Rome and to get a real feel for the city. Bring a good pair of walking shoes, a hat and carry a bottle, or two of water. There are many places where you can refill the bottles with water at no cost.

The hotel is also in the heart of the shopping district. Try Andrea Fabiani on Via Frattina 126, around the corner of the hotel, for reasonably priced shoes and genuine leather bags. The leather bags come in all shapes, sizes and colours.

Breakfast is good. It is served on the fifth floor and there is a beautiful view of the surrounding area including St. Peter's Basilica. The cappuchino is so good. They have a good assortment of pastries, fruit, cereal, and scrambled eggs - among other selections.

Although there were three of us (adults), we stayed in one of the largest rooms that holds five people. There was plenty of space and the bathroom is huge. The day beds are so comfortable for sleeping. The room has large windows, and air conditioning, and is extremely clean. We found it very quiet at night. In the room, we couldn't hear anyone in the hotel at night.

Some of the previous reviews mention an odour in the rooms, but we never encountered this.

There's a really good trattoria around the corner from the hotel called Pizza Ciro. The food and wine are so good. The service is outstanding.

I would recommend Hotel Madrid and look forward to returning to Rome.

Room Tip: I recommend Room 302.
