This is a great choice for budget travelers. We were 5 travelers from the US: 2 senior adults/2 adults/1 five-month old baby. We stayed for 5 nights from July 3 - July 8. Our two rooms were 90 Euro per night, each. Very helpful staff (especially Ovidio, and the owner Marta who is Argentinian) - all pretty fluent in English. The location (41 Via Tacito) is close to The Vatican - look it up on a map of Rome. Upon arrival you press the buzzer next to the door and they'll buzz you in - then up a little flight of stairs (look for the sign), or take the old-fashioned elevator up - pretty charming introduction to the hotel. In Rome, it is usually best/easiest to take taxis or the Metro, but in any event The Vatican is an easy walk from the hotel. The Metro stop is not terribly close, but reachable in about 5 - 7 minutes. The hotel can recommend restaurants if you're interested. The staff can also call you a cab, confirm you flight reservation, etc. They can pretty much answer any question you might have. About 3-4 blocks away (NW on Via Tacito) is a popular ice cream/drinks spot with outdoor tables. Other cafes are even closer. Plenty of ATMs and little grocery stores nearby. The room was small but had a perfectly adequate bathroom w/ shower. Air conditioning and TV are provided along w/ daily maid service. You might want to request fresh towels if they are not provided every day - they happily obliged. No self-service laundry, but they can recommend a place that will launder your clothes for you to pick up later. No internet unless you are lucky enough to pick up a nearby wi-fi signal which we did a couple of times, but there are internet cefes/spots nearby that the staff can tell you about. One thing I like about this hotel is that it is on the less-touristy side of the Tiber - but still close enough to the places you'll probably want to visit to make the cab ride reasonable. Sure, you could spend 200+ Euro per night for some non-descript hotel somewhere else, but why? Marta Guest House has all you need - it's one of those places that the "in the know" tourists go to because they want to spend their money on dinners, drinks, sites, taxis etc. rather than on faceless hotels. This was our 2nd trip to Rome (1st was in 2003), and our 2nd stay at Marta Guest House. We will definitely stay there again - mostly because of prime location and Ovidio (who remembered us) and Marta.
