“Fantastic location, very central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2011

The guest house was in a great location by Piazza Cavour, all the main sites were within easy walking distance and there is a bus stop around the corner to the airport.
The room was a good size and very clean with lovely cotton sheets on the bed and a really comfortable mattress. The fridge in the room had a couple of bottles of water and cans of soft drinks, we had one of these and they didn't charge us.
The bathroom was a good size but the bath was awful, the enamel had come off in many places and they'd tried to paint over some of it. The shower over the bath was fine but I wouldn't have taken a bath.
Our room overlooked the courtyard and so was very quiet, we didn't have the breakfast as the breakfast room was tiny and packed with people, it felt very claustrophobic. Instead we went to a cafe over the road and had coffee and pastries.
There are some great restaurants in the area, the best of these was Taki - a Japanese restaurant, we went on our first night and it was so good that we went back for lunch on our last day.
Overall a great budget hotel which we would use again.

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet ask for a room overlooking the internal courtyard.

The guest house is in a great location - very handy for the Vatican and just off Piazza Cavour which is a main bus terminus for all the sights but therein lies the problem. If you have a room overlooking the main street, it is very nosiy from 6am onwards. The bottle banks are emptied at midnight. Rooms overlooking the courtyard are quieter.

Our bathroom had the worst shower ever, loo seat kept coming off and overall, bathroom wasn't very clean. I spilt cream om the tiles at the beginning of our week and it was never cleaned off. The lamp in the bedroom was hanging by a thread and the TV never worked for more than 5 minutes before cutting out. Although we complained about all of this on a daily basis, nothing was ever done.

Their new breakfast room is a joke. One 2 slot toaster for 24 people and a kettle which takes ages to boil. Tables are far too high to sit at. You are obvioulsy not meant to linger here as it can get very crowded with people queing for their breakfast items.

Loved Rome but we won't be coming back to Marta's Guest House.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard

The staff was so friendly I felt like I was part of a family. They made my trips to Rome nicer. I stayed there in April 09 and July 11 and I will probably pass by there again. The rooms are very clean and all services are exactly what is needed. The location is so great everything is a walking distance away. The area is very safe at all times and serviced (theres a bus stop in case some needed to take the bus), the airport bus stops at the Piazza where the Guest House is, there is a supermarket in the building infront.

This hotel is extremely recommended for the friendly reception by Mr. Ovidio who will give you great advice on the places to visit around. Also the location of the hotel is perfect (10 minutes walk from Vatican city and other attractions). The accommodation is in a romantic setting (old Roman house), it is clean and nice, but not offering the latest modern comfort (if you would be looking for that on a city trip).
Very much recommended for the combination of price, location and friendliness!

I have stayed at Marta Guest House on two separate trips to Rome and will defnitely return. The staff is friendly, courteous and very helpful. The rooms are clean and uncluttered and each one unique. The location is perfect for visiting the Vatican and all the other sights, either by walking or by public transportation. Each room has its own private bathroom and air-conditioning (upon request for a reasonable extra fee). It is a small hotel so be sure to reserve well in advance – however, they are also flexible if you need to add beds or rooms later. They are willing to add beds for triple and quadruple occupancy which is very convenient and therefore less expensive for families. The elevator in the building is an old-fashioned cage elevator that holds 2 people plus a little luggage, certainly adequate for moving in and out of the hotel – we mostly used the stairs for everyday passage. The morning breakfast is good unless you are on a low-carb diet. The person that provided outstanding service to my family was Ovidio – he communicated by e-mail promptly and with good suggestions to all questions. He also helped arrange transportation from the airport to the hotel, from the hotel to the port (if you are taking a cruise) and from the port back to the airport at much more reasonable pricing than you find on the internet. Enjoy your Roman holiday at Marta Guest House.

Room Tip: Request inside rooms when possible - the street side has traffic noise at night and the garbage is c...
