As other reviewers have said, I Tetti di Roma is nothing fancy, but to me that was one of its selling points. We were looking to stay in a residential neighborhood near central Rome, not a loud touristy area, and this fit the bill perfectly.

My partner and I stayed there for three nights and used it as a base. As others said, you don't go to Rome to sit in a room all day. Our room was clean and bright, with a comfortable bed, a television, and a shared balcony (decorated with beautiful bougainvillea) with a nice view of southwestern Rome, particularly San Giovanni in Laterano. We arranged with the owner, Gianpaolo, to be picked up at the airport by his friend Dario, who patiently waited for us for over an hour while the airline dragged its feet getting our bags off the plane. The fare was the same as taking a taxi would be, but far more enjoyable since Dario is friendly, charming, and loves practicing his English. He recommended places for us to have pizza, gelato, and suppli (rice balls), and he did not disappoint.

The B&B is two blocks from Re di Roma Metro stop on the A line and you can be at Termini in about 10 minutes and Piazza di Spagna in 15. The only drawback is that construction is under way indefinitely on the A line at night and trains stop running at about 10 pm. But on a nice night the walk from central Rome to the B&B takes only about half an hour, and you can always take a taxi. There is a supermarket between the Metro and the B&B, as well as several local bars and cafes around Piazza Re di Roma.

The bathroom is shared but not a problem. It's very clean and the shower is great. You may find the elevator tricky. It's very tiny--not unusual in European buildings--so if you have a lot of luggage it may be slow going. We found it amusing. Your alternative is to walk up 8 flights of stairs, so in this case patience is a good quality to have. You may hear noise from the street, but we sleep with earplugs so it was not an issue.

Two other things that might be of interest to travelers. One is that Gianpaolo gives each guest daily vouchers for a typical Roman breakfast of cornetto and coffee at the local cafe. The cafe is closed on Sundays, so you're on your own, but Gianpaolo will reimburse you for not being able to use the voucher. Since breakfast costs a few meager euro, unless you're on a really tight budget it seems kind of petty to bother. The other thing is that you have to pay the bill in cash, but we knew this ahead of time.

I Tetti di Roma to us was a great aperitivo to the city. We would definitely stay there again.

I guess my review "seconds" what everyone else who has stayed here recently has said. The accommodiations are nothing fancy but then again who goes to Rome to spend time in the room. The host was great, the room and shared bathroom more than we needed, the church bells ringing Sunday morning just added to the entire experience. Easy to get to Metro stop, close by restaurants, grocery store and a neat Piazza to sit and watch real Italians at play and relaxation. Would definitely recommend when you are on a budget. Would definitely recommend to all our friends.

  • Liked — The combination of the room, its surroundings and the easy of travel via Metro
  • Disliked — Can't say that we disliked anything. Was a great value and experience

This is a great little B&B situated about 5 minutes from the centre of Rome by Metro. The rooms are quite large and there is a well appointed very modern bathroom that is shared between the two rooms on offer.

The room is sparsely furnished for it's size with a rocking chair, 2 bedside tables and a wardrobe. The person who runs the B&B speaks pretty good English and is very helpful in recommending places to go, things to see, and recommending restaurants.

We booked a doublle room and as often happens you get two single beds pushed together.

A minor concern only was the fact that the breakfast was by voucher at a little bar around the corner which is shut on Sunday's (although the landlord did offer to refund us money for breakfast).

There is WiFi available in the rooms free of charge but you need your own computer.

Overall highly recommended.

We stayed here for two nights and it was ideal for what we wanted. Not expensive at all, comfortable bed and nice bathroom (shared with one other room I believe) with a nice breakfast in a local cafe (tokens given by hotel for a pastry, coffee and orange juice) and very easy transport links/twenty minute walk into town. The owner was very helpful, providing a map and pointing out places of interest. Highly recommended.

I booked this hotel through Venere.com, and been to Rome between 24th - 29th May 2007. Our Italy trip started from Milan first (for 2 days), and Rome was our last stop. We selected this b&b because of the comments in this site. Overall it was a great experience.

We flied with Ryanair and our flight was delayed, by the time we arrived at the Rome airport it was already 12am, and the owner of this b&b contacted us asking whether we needed a taxi back to b&b or not, and offer us a reasonable price for the taxi fare.

We were given breakfast vouchers for 4 days (sunday no breakfast), which was in a cafe shop (walking distance - 5 mins from the b&b). The b&b was actually an apartment with 3 rooms + 1 office room + 1 toilet. The lift was a bit old fashion. Water, coffee machine, and fridge were provided in the shared area. The toilet (with shower) was clean, bright, modern and big. Inside the room, there's a shared balcony, TV, big fan, WIFI internet, and wardrobe. The nearest metro station (Re di Roma) is just 5-8 mins walk. There are many shops around the area.

PS: Don't expect to have big breakfast in McDonald's, they just provide bread and coffee in the morning.

  • Liked — Great location, friendly services, including nice breakfast, reasonable price, nice room
  • Disliked — the outlook of this apartment building, the old lift, have to share toilet
