my husband and i stayed at the Fontana hotel from sept 25th to sept 28th 09, we stayed in room 108 which had a view overlooking the trevi fountain, the room was a little small but adequate and very clean, there was hot water, fresh towels and clean bedding so we could not ask for more. The furniture and decor of the room was in keeping with the hotel, old but charming, the hotel dates back 2 hundred years before the trevi fountain was built and the hotel was originally a monastry so if your seeking atmosphere and character this is the hotel for you, it certainly adds to the feeling that you are staying in the eternasl city. The hotel is within minutes walk to the spanish steps, the pantheon, piazza navona and the colossuem, we took a short taxi ride to the vatican and the castel sant angelo but we could have walked there had i not been so impatient to see them on the first afternoon that we arrived in rome. The staff were pleasant and helpful and although this hotel is a little expensive for its 3 star rating, its location is priceless, the crowds gathered throughout the day and night around the fountain add to wonderful atmosphere. If you are considering going to Rome dont hesitate book it now and go, Rome is beautiful.

The Hotel Fontana is at it's best during the week when the crowds are smaller out by the Trevi Fountain. It was heavenly falling asleep with our window open to the sounds of the fountain. Saturday night was a bit loud until really late (2:00 a.m.) so we couldn't sleep with the window open. The window kept most of the noise dulled though.

The location was just perfect for the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, The Pantheon, Quirinale, and wonderful shopping. It was very easy to find cabs to take you further away and the bus stop is within a 5 minute walk.

Hotel was very clean, sleeping portion of the room was very good, however the bathroom was tiny and hard to work with.
Sondro was one of the men working at the front desk and he was fantastic. Responded to every question, every request, and was quite comical in his interactions, he is to be singled out as a great employee

My friend and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Fontana Hotel in Rome and
would highly recommend it to anyone travelling there for a short break.

The location is incredible - literally a stones (or coins!) throw from the Trevi fountain and perfectly positioned to walk to any destination in the city including the Vatican (30 minutes) or the Collosseum (20 minutes). We had a room at the back of the hotel so it was quite quiet - I can imagine the rooms at the front would be fairly noisy as the Trevi Fountain is by far the busiest place in the city! I'd take earplugs just in case!

Our room was fairly small but it didnt matter as we literally only used it to sleep - there is absolutely no reason to be there any longer as there is so much to do and see! The bathroom was particularly small however and rather claustrophobic so very quick in-and-out showers were a must!

The breakfast room gives great views at the top. Breakfast was standard continental and we had no complaints at all - no problems with running out of food or with somewhere to sit and the variety was actually very good. Service was excellent too.

Overall, this is a great hotel for a short stay and i'd happily stay here again in the future. We booked through Expedia and this turned out to be MUCH cheaper than the advertised price on their website which is quite pricey so check here first.

It's a perfect 3* hotel for a break in Rome; quaint with loads of character - exactly what you want in a city with so much history!

We stayed here for 4 nights the rooms are very tiny but perfectly formed, we asked to change from the first one we were given as the bathroom was minute ( don't drop the soap in the shower or you will never pick it up ) the second bathroom was slightly bigger. We had rooms looking out over the Trevi Fountain which was a bit noisy until you closed the shutters but a superb view.
The breakfast room is very small with tiny tables & chairs which are too high for the table, bit of a balancing act, on 3 days there was only one person doing the waiting, & there were not enough tables if everyone went to breakfast at the same time. It was a bit dull with only water melon, prunes & grapes with seeds never any other fruit & the things on the buffet ran out & were not always replenished in a timely manner.
Also the air conditioning was inadequate & on 2 occaisions we had to leave early as the room was so hot.
The staff at reception were very pleasant & the porter who helped with our luggage was great, we were lucky with good weather but there was no public space at all in this hotel so in bad weather you would only have been able to sit on the bed.
