The breakfast room overlooks the Trevi fountain and is wonderfully romantic but the hotel itself leaves a lot to be desired. The lift didn,t go to our floor, the bathroom was very small - anyone weighing over 12 stones would have trouble sitting on the toilet as it was so close to a wall. The aircon was woefully inadequate during summer ( they tried to charge us extra for it ! ) There wasn,t even a bar so no night cap chatting to other guests, nor was there a restaurant.

We stayed at the Fontana Hotel in July and loved it. We asked for a room with a view of the fountain but were given a rear room on arrival. When we asked to move Fabricio said that he really thought we would prefer a rear room because they were quieter and had air conditioning while the front rooms were noisy and had ceiling fans. We were staying for a week so we could move if we wanted. We are so glad of his advice. The square is noisy well into the early morning and at 42 degrees we loved thie air con. The hotel was charming with its quirky corridors and all the staff were helpful. Do not trust the other reviews condemning the breakfast lady. She was a little odd but we were friendly to her and we got the same in return. Her english is poor but we grew to really like her over our week. We will certainly return to the hotel and would recommend it to others. It would not be the best choice for children and the rooms are small. It does not compare with a modern slick hotel it has far more character. The location is absolutely the best for access to the centre of Rome.

Stayed at the Hotel Fontana 14th July 2005, I had searched hard for this hotel and the previous comments from other trip advisors helped me choose this one, We loved this hotel and it was in a superb location directly opposite the Trevi Fountain and we recieved a Fountain View Room, number 206, we didnt mind the noise outside and all the tourists (the area is full of tourists from 10am till midnight at least) it all added to the character of where we were and you could shut the windows which blocked out most of the noise. The rooms are small but with high ceilings and the bed in itself was a king size, the room was clean which is the main thing, and the fan above the bed did keep you cool but was a bit noisy on full speed, this is the only critical comment I have, the bathroom was well decorated and size was average. Value for money was good we paid 160 euros and it was within walking distance of everything. This hotel was typical Italian Style which is what we was looking for it was not modernised or charmless.
