My party of 3 booked two view rooms, but slight mix up upon arrival got us only one fountain view rm. (My friend was willing to take the non-view rm - her main concerns were a clean room & comfortable bed & she said her rm. met her expectations.)
Our rm. on the 2nd level was quite small but clean, tastefully furnished, with a spectacular view of the Trevi! Bathrooms had updated/modern facilities with lots of hot wtr!
If you love old world style, you will love the antiques & art throughout. There is a tiny lift, but couldn't fit us all plus our luggage, so we took the creaking stairs (adding to the ambiance!)
*As nice as it was to overlook the gorgeous Trevi Fountain, if you are a light sleeper, the sound of the waters might keep you awake. (just something to think about before booking a view rm.)
*The breakfast service on the Rooftop terrace started at 7am, giving us plenty of time to enjoy delicious food, nicely presented, before our flight out. The view from this rooftop was wonderful.

We were lied to from the start.
We were told the room we had booked had "hydraulic" problems.
Thought it was a story but prepared to give the benefit of the doubt.
Room we were given was 2mx4m with single beds for a couple on their 30th anniversary.
We were supposed to get a room with a view of the fountain the next night. More lies. We had to argue just to get a room with a double bed.
Truly not worth the trouble.

My boyfriend and I had an adorable room overlooking the Trevi Fountain; the view was almost 'too good to be true'. We think this hotel is perfect for travellers in search of authentic Italian charm.

My husband and I have just returned from 3 nights in Rome where we stayed at the lovely Hotel Fontana. I would definitely recommend room 204 - ok, so no view of the Trevi Fountain but this means you get a good night's sleep and much appreciated air con. The breathtaking view from the breakfast room, which is intimate, light and airy, should satisfy your need for seeing the Trevi Fountain. We were shown to our room by one of the friendly porters and he also took us to see the breakfast room and gave us some handy info as well as complimentary water/biscuits. We paid for a superior and the room was fairly spacious-although the bathroom probably the smallest I've ever seen (!), with robes, very clean - something I am known for being fussy about- and full of rustic charm. Some of the furniture is old and worn but what you'd expect in a protected 14th Century former Monastery and I loved all the little chairs/lamps and tables along the hallways. My only gripe is that there were no bath towels when we arrrived and until day 2 - drying yourself on a tea towel is not ideal but really no big deal when it's hot. We were there to see Rome and it was the perfect base. With this hotel, you are also paying for the location, it's easy walking distance from almost all the major sites and has the world famous San Crespino ice cream parlour round the corner. A couple of tips: get to breakfast fairly early or there won't be anything left. We got there at 10am on the first morning just as they were about to pack up the toaster but on our last morning, at 8 am, there was loads of choice and it was great. Secondly, when you get to Rome, take the train from the airport to Termini (11 euros each) and then a taxi (don't pay more than 10 euros) to the hotel or alternatively walk it in 15 mins.

  • Liked — The charm
  • Disliked — The lack of towels on first day!

I was very disappointed in the Hotel Fontana. Maybe I was expecting more but apart from the view of the Trevi which is outstanding, the Hotel itself is definitely not a 4 star. My husband and I stayed in room 109 which was very very small. I booked this hotel about 8 months prior and felt that for the money we paid it was no more than a pensione. The bed took up most of the room and the floor sloped downwards so that we kept on slipping off the bed during the night. We thought we were seeing things when we looked at the clothes cupboard and it sat at an angle against the wall. The bathroom needed an update and was cramped to say the least. No bar fridge in our room, no robes, no safe deposit box, it was very basic. Others may have had a better room than ours I don't know. We did ask for a Trevi fountain view, but I have to say that for the 4 nights we were there we didn't sleep more than 3 hours each night. Even with the windows closed the noise was dreadful as crowds hung around until 3 - 4am in the morning. Then the garbage trucks would come round. The windows are not sound proof even with the shutters closed. Breakfast is ok but the breakfast room is small and claustrophobic. The tables are small and the wrought iron chairs sit much higher than the tables and you have to bend over the table to eat your food. Very uncomfortable and not very practical. We didn't ask for another room perhaps we should have. All in all it wasn't the way I wanted to say goodbye to Rome which I love and we certainly will never stay there again.
