The Celio is in an amazing location, the backdrop of the colliseum is marvellous. The hotel itself however is awful considering how expensive it was.

Good points - nice mosaic floor, clean, good bed.

Bad points - The bathroom was so small, I am a size 14 - any heavier and I could not have got into the bathroom. A man if he so wished could pee, brush his teeth and shower his right leg at the same time. Ridiculous.

There were no niceties, brochures, tips, recommendations, not even a box of tissues.

Breakfast - was in a tent in the courtyard & and that is being generous. (4 m by 4m) Breakfast was stale bread and croissant. Not what we had anticipated.

Staff were incredibly rude, and made you feel as if you shouldn't be taking up precious space in the hotel. Rude & unhelpful.

Would never recommend this hotel or return to it. Such a shame, and an expensive waste of money.

My partner and I went to Rome for our joint birthday's in early Jan '07. Whilst the hotel was very nicely furnished, I'd have swapped that for a more helpful staff and the ability to have a cup of tea after long sight seeing trips! There was merely a dismissive "no" when tea was requested at 8.15pm. They claim the rooms are 'spacious' - they are not, with enough room to walk around the bed and thats it ! The breakfast was very poor also. Its a shame as clearly a lot of thought has gone into selecting the antiques, decor and the location is good, - shame the staff weren't selected with the same care.

I stayed at The Celio for the duration of my time in Rome. Great hotel location with the Coliseum just a minutes walk away. The hotel decor is certainly over the top but gives the hotel a definite charm. Overall though my experience in the Celio was not a positive one. Although the rooms are clean and well kept, they are very small. The dark colours and frescoes only serve to make the rooms seem more claustrophobic. My most serious complaint about the hotel was the attitude of the staff towards guests. Despite promises about being a 'treasured guest' in the hotel welcome e-mail the acual experience felt more like I was intruding into someone's living room. The staff were consistently dismissive towards guests giving the impression that they would prefer you not to bother them with any enquiries. Looking back at my stay I could think of no reason to recommend the Celio to other travellers.

We stayed in this hotel for the night before we got married and the subsequent three nights in mid October 2003. The cost at the time was €250 per night. Which I thought was excessive but it was close to everthing, Collaseum,Forum and most of all the Irish College where we got married. The hotel was pretty and looked nice. The room had large dark doors leading into a small cramped room with little room for a double bed. the room was clean but dark a window looking out onto a side of the hotel about 2 meters away. So, so much for the view it was non existenced. The bathroom was tiny so small one could hardly turn around as was the shower. i'm not a big man only 5' 10'' and 75kgs but I couldn't move. A nighmare!!. We had an adaptor for my wifes hair drier that went missing in the room when we asked about it we were told our room was very messy but it was so small we could even empty our bags. We found the front desk manager unhelpful and igorrent. The messier for breakfast consistanced of a green tent in a courtyard. Breakfast consistanced of a crossant and tea or coffee. Not great for €250 per night. We got no satification when we complained. Do your best not to stay here. We couldn't get out soon enough.

This hotel is too precious, and not in a good way.
I booked two nights directly at the hotel and upon first viewing, it looked to be quite charming. However, we were to find out upon staying there that it is expensive for what you receive, small dark room with mildew smelling bathroom, virtually non-existant air conditioning even though they advertise that they have it, breakfast that wouldn't feed a 5 year old and rudeness beyond belief from the manager.
As we had an early flight out of Rome we asked for a taxi for 6am only to find out when double checking, that the manager had requested it for 7am, which would have made us late for our flight!
Save your money and stay somewhere else, you'll be glad you did.
