I visited Rome in June for a conference but continued my trip to the weekend where I stayed at Hotel Alpi. I was a little disappointed with our room, but we were only there for 2 nights so we didn’t complain. The room was extremely dark due to having no natural light as our window opened on to a very small court yard, which made it feel very claustrophobic. Also, our Air Conditioning kept turning itself off, even though the room was still hot. As noted in previous reviews, there are no English channels on the TV, but why would you visit Rome to watch TV, so this didn’t affect us.
Generally the hotel was clean and very tidy, and the staffs were extremely friendly. The breakfast was what I expected, continental foods i.e. hams, cheeses, bread etc, if you’re expecting eggs and bacon you’ll be disappointed.
One main point I’d like to mention is the fact the roof terrace is not available free of charge, maybe I re-read the information on the website, but I assumed this roof terrace had a bar area where we could have a drink and eat our breakfast, this was not the case. To have the privilege of using this terrace there was a service charge of EUR10.
The location was not ideal, I’ve visited Rome twice now and my favourite areas are Trastevere and the Pantheon, which is a good 30/40 minute walk from this hotel. Which doesn’t sound too far, but after a day of walking non stop in 30 degree heat it’s not great. Although, there were a few bars and restaurants near the hotel but I can’t comment as I didn’t try them. Personally, I would rather be closer to the main areas, but if you like to be away from that then this is definitely a good choice in hotel.
