This hotel was a total rip off. I made very good decisions and got great rooms in other European towns, but I bombed on this one. I paid for air conditioning, there was NONE! It's not like they just didn't have it on, it was not there. I didn't think I had to ask for a shower curtain, but I guess I should have requested it in advance. The shower was designed for a curtain. The whole bathroom got wet when you took a shower (it was small) but would have been ok if not wet. We ended up going down this ladder that passed for stairs and stealing a dirty bed sheet to use, it didn't work so well. The service was just bad, it wasn't a language problem, the people there (about 4, one on duty at a time) just didnt' care. There were other things, but I am not going to complain because it might have been unique to our stay. However I can imagine similar things with other guests. Choose another hotel in this area, or save your money and book the same horrible room somewhere else.

Yes... it's not the Ritz... but this hotel was very pleasant. The staff-- if you take the time to talk to them -- is very nice. Both of the young men we met were more than helpful. This is absolutely NOT a 4 or 5 star hotel, probably not even a 3 star, but it cannot be beat for its location. The bathrooms were not what Americans were used to... but what bathroom in Europe is? This is the only hotel we stayed at, in 5 countries, which had a fridge in the room (nice for storing the prosciutto and mozarella we bought for lunches.) The place was clean and yes, there is construction going on... but we didn't hang out in our room a lot so we really didn't notice it. Don't know about breakfast... we would hit the streets of Rome early and find off the beaten track bars. Go with an open attitude... for the price, it's a bargain. I would definitely stay there again.

Had a 5 day stay here in June. were assured there would be a pick up at airport (we were prepared to pay) but alas no pick up! our flight had been delayed, but I did phone from Scotland to let them know and was assured there was no problem! taxi from airport did not know location, but fortunately had a good map. Staff on duty not very helpful. there were obviously large renovation works going on so no dining room but we were given a ticket for cafe across the street for drink and croissant. this was closed on Sunday but no alternative was given. I hope the renovations mean that the hotel has upgraded as the location is perfect for all the sights. would consider using again if this was so, room was clean as were bathroom fascillities,shame about the upheaval (which we were not informed about) and lack of tourist info.(night reception could tell us nothing about visits to Vatican infact it seemed to belong to another country!).

This hotel is beyond a dump and should be closed down. There were six of us travelling in Italy and we booked three rooms at the Marcus via the on-line booking option. Nothing that exists on the hotel website actually exists in reality. Although the entry is a good sign of what is to come, we were tired and agreed to check in. That process, which requires that you pay ahead for your 2 night stay, should have been another warning of what was to come. We were showed a room that was not awful, but, of course, not available. The rooms we did get were tiny, filthy, without hot water, a toilet that did not flush, and dirty linens. One room even had pidgeons in it! The staff was rude and not at willing to help with any problems. Although the rooms come with a continental breakfast -- not one of us wanted to drink a cafe latte from the disgusting cups! Luckily we were only committed to a 2 night stay and we mananged to escape the Marcus without harm or disease. Do yourself a favor and don't stay at the Marcus Hotel. If you do -- bring your flip-flops so you can take a cold shower!
