Great hotel with easy access to all major tourist attractions and great restaurants
My husband and I recently stayed at Hotel Homs for 4 nights for our 25th anniversay. The location is the best thing about this hotel. It is close to the Spanish Steps, the metro and many other attractions. The downfall of the hotel is the front desk staff could care less about giving you good service. They must get many of the same tourist type questions asked daily of them and yet could have cared less about answering. A common response was I don't know or they couldn't help. I don't know if it was because we were American but we certainly were not demanding guests. They did however hold our luggage on the last mornig we were there. The rooms however were nice and clean and everything was in working order.
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. When I first arrived in, they gave me a room on the roof where I had to take an elevator for the first 4 floors and then I had take stairs to reach the fifth floor. The room had a split Air-Condition unit and it didn't work at all and the bathroom was so tiny. After I had complained about the AC, they changed me to a second room where the AC again also didn't work. The room was so tiny as well and it didn't have any proper lightening. I felt I was in a coffin. Then they changed me to a 3rd room. It was a nice large room but it didn't have any electricity. Then they changed me to a fourth room. The fourth room was so small. Only about 0.50-1 meter space surrounding the bed (see pictures). However, the AC was working. Moreover, there wasn't any internet connection available as the internet cable socket was not working. When I asked them to send someone to fix the problem, they said they didn't have anyone to help me and the problem most likely was with my computer. On my fourth and final night, after I had complained several times that my computer was fine, they sent someone to fix the problem and they give me one hour free internet connection which was worth 5 Euros only. I really needed an internet connection daily because I was on a business trip to Rome so I was behind in my work. Furthermore, the bed spread was dirty. It had a large yellow stain on it. And because of the location of the room I was given, I didn't get any sleep during the night as I could hear a guests talking in the hallways and in other rooms. Finally, the elevator was so small and it only fit two average weight guests. The only positive thing I could say about the hotel was its location. The hotel was about 3-5 minutes away from Spanish steps and designer boutiques.
My husband and I just spent several weeks in Europe and this hotel was the very worst part of our trip. The staff is rude and indifferent. They don't even bother to look up from their computers when you walk in. We asked for multiple recommendations or directions to places and each time the directions were wrong and their selections just show that they blatantly do not care about you or your enjoyment. I could have overlooked the awful staff if the room was nice, but you had to roll over the bed to get from the bedroom to the door b/c it is THAT small. And we stayed in lots of small hotels in Europe... this one was ridiculous. Bottom line, unless you want to feel bad about yourself when you leave your hotel... stay somewhere else.
This is a nice hotel. Clean and safe and fairly quiet. Close to all the sights. 5 min walk to Spanish Steps. 10 min to Trevi Fountain, 25 min walk to Colloseum. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Just one problem: The air conditioning venting in our room blew out a bad smell into the room. We called the smell "dirty diaper". We ended up running the a/c and keeping the windows open. It was evident that they knew about the problem because there was an air freshener plugged into the wall. This was the only drawback, though. Also, had to purchase internet time in advance (pay 5 euros to front desk to get password for one hour of time ) Otherwise, a great hotel in a superior location.
