“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

We wanted to stay in Trastevere because we were visiting my niece who was staying there to study for the summer. Hotels in the area are not cheap. This was the lowest price I could find so I was worried about the quality. This turned out to be a pretty good value to price match so I would say that if you want to stay in Trastevere but don't want to break your bank, this is a good option.
The location is great! The room was clean. There was free WiFi (though it worked best in the common areas, not in the room). A modest breakfast was included. There is a lovely deck to sit on at night and during breakfast. The front desk staff was helpful.
While it didn't look very recently renovated it wasn't completely outdated or broken down either. The bed was relatively comfortable though the pillows a bit flat.

The downsides:
The description of the room said it had a mini-fridge. It barely kept things cooler than room temperature.
The WiFi only worked if we stood right at our door or went out into the common area. We couldn't sit anywhere in our room and use it.
The front door lock was a pain to open. I never could get it to open when we returned at night. Luckily my traveling companion could.

We stayed at the Carmel in February 2014 and found it wonderful. The staff is helpful and quickly solved a few problems that came up. The room was clean and also warm--we were worried that it might not be in February (although the breakfast room is a bit chilly). In addition to a great location, walking distance from most sites, the hotel is located on a fairly quiet side street in an otherwise noisy neighborhood. For Sabbath observant Israelis as we are, there is the added attraction of a manager who speaks Hebrew and understands and provides a few things that turn Shabbat from a chore into a pleasure--a hot plate and water urn that are prepared for use on Friday afternoon.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room with a private bathroom--not all have.

A small but lovely hotel where all of the staff are very very helpful. Close to, all transport links and only a 5-minute walk from one of the tour bus drop of points. Located in the Travestere part of Rome which is full of quirky shops and restaurants and is within easy reach (even walking) of many of the best attractions in Rome. Looking forward to going back there again.

Room Tip: Room leading onto breakfast area/patio are lovely

My wife, son (19) and daughter (10) stayed at this hotel at the back end of a cruise. Our intent was to delve into the rest of the tourist areas to the west that we did not do at the first stay prior to cruise. This hotel is nicely situated for that. Public transportation is very easy if you don't mind asking for assistance, which we did at front desk and her words of wisdon were bang on. We used bus, tran that are within a block.

Accomodatiosn suited the four of us for what we wanted. We wanted a place to stay, sleep and use for tourist purposes - period. If you're looking for accomodation and remain in your room, this is not the place (actually why leave your residence).

The only suggestion for improvment is the advertised breakfast. I would suggest issuing a bowl per person and have available cold milk if you are serving cerial. The cereal with warm milk, was not that great, - communication problem most likely.

Room Tip: block from public transportation and safely situated (half block from police station)

The hotel is located in the center of the city in near many historical sites, good restaurants, pubs and museum. Near the hotel there are bus stops to every destination. Wonderful service, clean and comfortable rooms. I hope to come back there very soon.

Hi, I came back after I had a good experience in the Carmel Hotel and I found out they really improved in many things! The breakfast is AMAZING! Home made cakes, abundant...I couldn't expect anything better! The staff was as usual very nice and the rooms clean...I like this hotel...Small, nice, I feel I live the real experience of travelling in Rome....

Room Tip: Ask for their number 5....

Located in a charming neighbourhood, this is the only positive thing about this "hotel". Staff were all right, but nothing more. First of all, this place is WAY overpriced (paid 115 euro per night) Granted, the neighbourhood is charming, but this alone cannot justify the price. Small, cramped room, poor bed, very noisy air con (and a street and some sort of garbage station outside the window, so the window must be kept shut if you want some silence), smelly bathroom, poor wifi and paper thin walls. Breakfast was a joke. The last night, we were kept awake ALL night by a group of drunken germans running in the hall, and nobody from the staff were reacting (I don't even know if there was anybody from the staff staying there over night). Since we were leaving for Florence early the next day, this was especially bad luck for us. , Hugely disappointed over the place. Avoid.
