We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Arenula. Our first day there we were able to walk over to Campo di Fiori in about 8 minutes. Pizza Navonna was another 10 minutes away..it was also really close to Trastevere as well. The rooms were typically small, 2 star really but very clean,
had CNN and BBC on the tube and good supplies in the bathroom but the towels were weird...like table clothes. The front desk lady in the day
was great but the people at night and the lady handling breakfast seating need to be in another job...sour pusses. Remember you have to lug your suitcases up...way up. It almost killed our friend on the 4th
floor. We stayed on the 2nd by the desk. The one thing I hated was a tour group arranged by the hotel called Carrani Tours. They are everywhere. We spent just about $100.00 to see the Forum and the Coloseo...get this...we walked through the forum in less than 1/2 hour
and got to the Colliseum and the guide said "There it is" never went in or anything. They left us at St.Paul's . Told our group to get on this other bus, which didn't leave for another 45 minutes. Terrible experience, remember that name Carrani Tours. Everyone on the tour was
disappointed.

We stayed here for 4 nights in September 2007 and I found, overall, that the pros outweighed the cons, but only marginally. On the plus side, the room was very spacious (a double bed, two singles and a big bathroom) the location was good for walking everywhere, there were plenty of cheap eats nearby and we loved the close proximity to the Ghetto and the Campo di Fiori, which were a lot of fun. On the down side, the place is styled and lit like a rec centre, the breakfast (though good) was overcrowded with tour groups and the front desk service was, at best, indifferent. We were traveling with a baby and this was the only place in 7 B&B's and hostels that we went to that did not have a crib or any baby amenities, so come prepared. I think there must be better places out there, but because of the location and room size, I would recommend it to others.

For what it is, Hotel Arenula is great. Don't expect fancy digs - it's strictly tiled floors, with bathrooms hardly large enough to swing a cat, and two single beds pushed together to make doubles like everywhere in Italy - but it's clean, neat and the staff are very friendly.

The breakfast room is very small, and that's a real disadvantage - you have to book a time. However, the location is brilliant, close to everything. We'd definitely stay again.

Although the location and price of this hotel are excellent, and the breakfast was ample, there is no elevator, and a rather steep climb on winding stairways. You have to climb to the second floor for the reception desk and, although we had requested a low floor, we were originally put on the fourth floor.....a real hardship for seniors. We were moved to the third eventually, but even that was a problem. with or without luggage!! There is also a lot of street noise from the trams which pass quite often. We were, however, able to walk everywhere from this location. There is no internet access at the hotel, but two close internet points nearby.

small family run hotel in great location. no lift so be careful with lots of baggage! We paid for the previous night as we arrived on a very early flight only to find the room had been sold. We did get to check in about 9am [without charge] but we had two e-mails confirming the arrnagement. The lady on the desk was agrump but we found all the other reception staff to be great.. Breakfast was great, rooms simple and tidy. Very quiet location for centre of room, trams run nearby but just a distant rumble. bathroom small but OK. I'd score it 6.5 out of 10. We paid Euro95

  • Liked — location, friendliness except one staff member, quiet
  • Disliked — stairs if on a high floor, one staff member, best to use only a base to explore the city
