This little hotel on top of the spanish steps is perfect first of all because of its great location , being very close to the Villa Borghese park ( a park that offers great landscapes); also Piazza di Spagna and all its bars and restaurants nearby.
The hotel offers great conditions , the rooms are large and fully equiped ; internet works perfectly , this being my first condition in booking this hotel because my job depends on it.
Breakfast is served upstairs on the roof garden , a great terrace with all kind of flowers and a lovely view of San Pietro and the Pantheon which makes your day a positive one.
There is someone 24/7 at the front desk to help with directions or in case any problems might appear.
Scalinata is a beautiful hotel and I plan on going there next time too.

Good hotel.
Nice and helpfull staff.
The room was quite big with a nice view on Piazza TRinità dei Monti. The room was quiet and very clean.
I recommend it to everyone.
P.S: they also have a wireless network, very fast and FREE.

In months on the road, a long weekend in Rome was the only real downtime my husband and I were going to have. I found this hotel on another travel site and contacted them directly to ask questions. The owner -- Fabio -- answered every one of my questions and even upgraded us to a balcony when we got there. The breakfast is lovely, and you can't beat the view from the terrace. Plus, unlike other friends who had to walk long ways to play tourist, we were in the middle of everything.

We just returned from Umbria and spent 3 days in Rome staying at the Hotel Scalinata de Spagna. It is located at the top of the Spanish Steps across the street from the upscale hotel Hassler (which has a wonderful view from its rooftop restaurant and bar). Although the Scalinatta is small its rooms are well decorated and the service is good. Charming Fabio at the front desk was very helpful with a car rental and restaurant suggestions. Breakfast was good enough and the rooftop room with adjoining terrace was delightful even though the view was limited. My only suggestion would be to replace the worn out carpet on the stairs. The location at the top of the Steps is wonderful and it is a short walking distance to Via Condotti and many wonderful sights, restaurants and shops. For location and nice rooms, I would definitely recommend this for a stay in Rome.

Its true about the location. Very Nice area and easy to get to. We took the train from the airport and the metro here. There is an ELEVATOR that takes you up to the top of the Spanish steps from the metro so dont worry about carrying your luggage up. The staff is very friendly. The hotel is tiny! and very simple...but not bad.Great WiFi connection!!Dont expect anything too luxiruious but its defintely very clean(except for the rugs on the stairway) The rooms are very small but they tell me this is normal in Rome??. Breakfast is simple but nice. The only thing that bother me was the bill, especially since the rates vary significantly from day to day if you look at the website. I book at 190/night, then when I got here, the rate was 150/night on the website for the same room period and same room. (40 Euros is a lot!).
There are no views from the rooms and there is construction going on so you cant eally fully open the windows. The view from the top where you have breakfast is not high enough to see Rome but is a cute place to have coffee. Air conditioning is excellent and the bathrooms are spotless and modern.
Overall, I think this is a nice little hotel but somewhat overprice. I would surely stay here again but only if I get a better rate (less than E150/off season). 190 is too much in the off season.
