I found Casa della Palma on Cross-Pollinate. It was one of the cheapest accommodations on the website so we chose it without looking too much into it (Rick Steves had mentioned everything on Cross-pollinate was a good bet)...and I'm so glad we did. It was definitely outside of the popular tourist swarmed areas, but it was nice to get away from that. It’s also very easy to get on a bus or tram and they will help you to locate all of the stops for the different routes (plus walking is doable, though when it’s hot out I wouldn’t suggest it). The restaurants nearby are very good, while many of the places we ate at in the tourist areas were no where near as good. The room itself was wonderful- We stayed in Room 47- The Nursery. It was very large, a great AC, clean bathroom, a great big bed, a couch, and a computer (though the internet wasn't working on it at the time). I originally booked a double room, but when we got there they were unable to get us into the room we wanted so they upgraded us for the night for free. We then had the option to pay an extra 5 euros a night to stay in the room or move to the other one, but we paid the extra. It was wonderful to come home sometime between 1-4ish and lay down in the bed with the AC on (many people in Rome do that because it goes sooo hot during those times- plus many things shut down as well). I would not suggest braving Rome in August without an air conditioned room. Every one was very nice and helpful at the hotel- they were full of information on places to eat or go for fun. I would highly suggest Casa della Palma to anyone- I am a college student on a budget but spending the extra money to stay at this wonderful place was by far the best choice I made my entire trip through Europe.
