I stayed at the Sunshine House for 4 nights. Well, the building the Sunshine House is in. We were booked to stay at the Sunshine House, but we were put into two other hotels in the same building. The man who works the night shift is ancient, and marginally helpful, although he would not let us use the phone, when two other people who work at the desk had told us we could, because the phones in the rooms only work inside the hotel. The elevator looks terrifying, but it works fine. Bathroom was decently clean, although not great. The whole building was a little dirty, actually. The rooms had airconditioning units, but they were not functional, and so we had to keep our window open because of the heat. Unfortunately, that meant that our window was open to the busy street by the train station, and it was pretty noisy. Overall, the hotel was mediocre, not horrible... What made it horrible was the location. The building is located very near the train station, and the area is very shady. There were dozens of homeless people, tons of garbage, and the whole area smelled like urine. I was afraid to walk around the area after dark with another girl. I would never stay in the area near the train station again, because it was truly scary and extremely filthy.

  • Liked — The pillow was awesome.
  • Disliked — The area was extremely dirty and scary.

Bathroom tiny and no fresh towels when old ones obviously not to be used anymore. No hair-dryer. Very unfriendly man at the desk. Hotel hard to find - in the fith floor with a dangerous lift.

All the nights have to be paid at arrival CASH even thought the door is full of VISA,.... stickers....

In the mornings there was a very nice young lady which was the only sunshine in that hotel. Thanks to her we afterall enjoyed our stay.

  • Liked — The young lady at the front desk in the mornings
  • Disliked — Bathroom

We used a large travel agency to make hotel arrangements and were pleased with all the hotels we stayed in , this was in 4 other countries. Our final destination was Rome and we went out with a bang! This is by far the worst place I have ever seen and I have been traveling overseas for 10 years........it's looks not safe, not clean, and not what it was advertised. NOT a place any one should consider staying in and we didn't. We took one look and checked out.

Do not stay at this hotel. I never write these reveiws but I felt that I had to for this hotel.

This hotel was dirty, the staff were very unfriendly, breakfast was eaten in a cafe down the road (thankfully as you wouldn't eat there).

I was woken at 2am with people banging on the hotel door looking for the room they had booked. I eventually answered the door, then the doorman graced us with his presence!

The window in our room - on the fifth floor led to the roof, so it was covered with metal bars!!! No fire escape whatsoever!

The door to our room had once been broken, had been fixed with masking tape. Didn't make you feel confident about leaving your stuff in the room when you were out.

I wish now that i had read peoples reviews before booking this hotel, as I could have done without it.....

I'm surprised about the reviews I'm reading for this place. I actually found it something of a haven in an otherwise suspicious city, hotel-wise. It was a last minute choice for us, & suited our needs adequately. One of my travelling companions suggested it, since he had stayed there before, & I was satisfied with the choice.

It's about a 15 minute walk from the Stazione Termini through a really skiddy area. I didn't feel comfortable walking alone there, especially at night. We had to walk across some tracks & over DOZENS of needles, which was pretty gross.

The hostel itself was decently clean. Two of my companions ended up in the matrimonial suite because all the other rooms were full - lucky them! The other rooms slept 4-6 people to a room. There was one women's washroom with 3 showers which was pretty clean (as clean as you can expect from a hostel). There was a small eating area that was part inside, part outside, which overlooked a bit of a piazza if you craned your neck. Dogs barked 24/7 from the piazza though.

Overall, it was totally worth the 17 Euros pppn we paid. You get what you pay for. I would stay there again.
