At the top of The Spanish Steps, you'll find Hotel Internazionale, so the location is great. Everything is within walking distance.
The building is old and very charming. Though an "overall" repair is needed as it looks pretty worn out. The place was very clean, our rom was large for a classic double room with a large bathroom and the furniture has an antic look. We had heard that breakfast in Italy is terrible, but at this hotel we were nicely surpriced. There is a large breakfast buffet with anything you'd like.
So if you want a charming place with at great location and a historic touch, hotel Internazionale will be your choice.

Stayed for 4 nights at the Hotel Internazionale and thought it was a perfect location. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast superb with a lot of choice, ie scrambled eggs, bacon, cereals, hams, cheeses, breads, pastries, fruit and also tea, coffee and orange juice. The hotel is about 100 yards from the top of the Spanish Steps. The Trevi Fountain is close too. Although we did not use the metro, there was a stop nearby. It is also not far to catch the sightseeing buses. There were stops for all tour companies. There are numerous restaurants in the vicinity. The only downside was the noise of the traffic as the hotel is on a really busy road, but I can honestly say this was a minor inconvenience as we were usually so tired from sightseeing we fell fast asleep!

  • Liked — Definitely the location
  • Disliked — Noise from traffic outside

We recently returned from a wonderful 3 week self drive holiday around Italy. My daughter booked all our hotels through recommendations on trip advisor, except for Hotel Internazionale(which was recommended by a family friend.) It was the worst experience we have ever had.Honestly we cannot understand how people are actually giving this place good reviews. Our pictures speak a thousand words. The rooms are filthy, stained carpets, water damaged walls, around 30 years worth of dust on the furniture and curtains. Paying 220 euro a night you would expect a moderate place, but seriously this place is the pits. The staff are useless. My husband had a fight with the staff as soon as we got there and demanded a room change. Our initial room was no bigger than a closet, and had no hot water(it took 30 minutes for the hot water to come through in a trickle enough for one person to have a very quick shower). They finally changed us to what they describe as their superior room. Judging by the photos i would hardly call it superior. It borders on backpacker budget. The breakfast is horrible. We contemplated changing hotels but it was our last stop before heading home and we were exhausted. However looking back now, we wished we had changed. There was a gorgeus little hotel around the corner called Hotel Homs, where we would have coffe every morning(and even breakfasts after experiencing the Internazionale's breakfast). We were only there 3 days and the waitress would recognise us and know exactly what we wanted at the Hotel Homs. It is miles ahead of the internationale, and we even enquired about the cost of the room and it would have only been 200 euro.
The bed was broken, we couldnt even move around without the thought that we may fall off.The only small positive is its location right at the top of the spanish steps. We have stayed at some fairly average hotels, but honestly this is by far the worst experience we have ever had. They really tarnish a very nice city. Do yourself a favour and stay away.

Starting last August completed a first part of the work of renewal: the lobby, the bar, and half of the rooms. Actually, we are working for a complete restoration of all the rooms of our hotel: classic rooms, superior rooms and mach more a new gymnasium!! We are supposed to finish this works for the end of January 2009.

We are very sorry for what happened during your stay at our hotel. Unfortunately we have assigned you, a room not yet renewed. It was a big mistake and we are sincerely sorry!

We are working hard on trying to satisfy the needs of our guests but in your case we were not able to make you feel comfortable at all. Guests comments helps always to improve our service and I hope to welcome you and your family once again at our hotel completely renovated.

Sincerely

We stayed at the Hotel Internazionale for 4 nights and I wanted to put in a good word for this place. The staff was excellent and the service was great. The rooms were spacious and the location was very convenient to everywhere we wanted to visit. The free breakfast was very good with lots of variety of fruits, cereals, breads, etc. The only negative which I must be honest about is that the air conditioning was not the greatest. We had to change rooms because the first room we had was simply too hot. But in all fairness, it was July in Rome and the temperature outside was above 90 degrees (Farenheit) everyday. I would still recommend this hotel and I would stay there again.

  • Liked — Great staff and service. Very convenient to most tourist locations.
  • Disliked — Air conditioning was not the greatest, especially in July when temps were above 90 (F).

Hotel Internazionale, Rome
DATE: June 08 (4 night stay before our Mediterranean Cruise)
REVIEWER: Olivia, San Jose, California

My family and I stayed at this hotel in June of 08'. We had four rooms and each had it's own charm. Americans need to remember we are in Rome, the Romans do not sweat the small stuff. The rooms were clean, and a good place to rest in the middle (because it is very warm), and end of the day.

I loved opening the shutter each morning and seeing the Italians go to work. Sometimes people would wave at me as they road their little motorbikes down the street. I loved the location. This hotel is right on top of the Spanish Steps. In the middle of everything. The location, and it's surroundings were very clean.

Everything you want. I must say, the best cappuccino I've ever had is in this hotel. Not to mention 4 doors down the street the best gelato. You could walk to nice restraurants, theatres, the red and white bus, Phanthom, Trevi Fountain, etc., so much to see.

Back to the hotel,
The staff was very kind and helpful. Staff had good suggestions on dinner, and was helpful when we had question about public transportation. The breakfast was excellent.

Each room had it's own restroom, but the shower in my room was small. But, it was clean. TVs are outdated, but you really don't need to watch one in Rome. There is a bar and an outside seating area. The hotel is a little rustic, but again the cleaness is more important to us.

Would I stay here again, yes. No doubt. Four days in Rome is not enough, I need two weeks!

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — They allow pets, which is ok for some people. I don't have a pet.
