We travelled to Rome for my 30th Birthday last week and had chosen Des Artistes due to good reviews and good price for location, well they were all true!

We arrived in drizzle but only a 5 min walk from Central Termini to the Hotel, we got a warm welcome from the staff, given our room details and they then went through all the places suitable to visit in the rain.

Our room was on the first floor, it was clean and tidy, small ish bathroom but everything we needed for our 4 night break.

After unpacking our soggy cases thanks for Altalia airline we had a wander around Rome and finally the sun came out, after a long afternoon we retreated back to the hotel for a drink before dinner. We went up to the 6th Floor where the lovely terrace is, the hotel is only missing one thing - a proper bar at the top. You can get drinks from reception but it would really make a difference with a nice bar.

Apart from that we could not fault the hotel at all. They even give you breakfast vouchers for Bruce and Franks cafe just around the corner, Cappuccino and a croissant for 1.50euros, well worth using as most cafes are charging 4euro a coffee!!

Most things are within walking distance although the tube stops at the top of the main road, I'd advise buying a 3 or 7 day ticket as you can use on buses too.

Overall a great thumbs up and will recommend to friends and family.

The AC didn't work very well, the humidity was icky. The room (with two single beds) was tiny. I am only 5'2" and my feet were dangling off the end of the bed. The European twin bed is much smaller than a U.S. twin bed. If you are tall or large, a standard room is not for you. The shower stall was so small, I bruised my arms on the doors which enclosed you as you showered. Water pressure was nil, took forever to wash my thick hair. Shaving your legs in the shower, not so easy, better off putting your feet up in the bathroom sink like you did when you were in college. HOWEVER, great access to the blue metro line, so easy transportation may balance out any inconvenience in the hotel room itself. The gentlemen at the Front Desk who spoke perfect English were also very kind and helpful.

The Service was fantastic! We stayed for my fiance's Birthday and were given a room exactly as I had seen on the website, not large, but cosy enough to be romantic and classically decorated. Even though it was December, it was stilll warm enough weather to have breakfast on the roof garden amongst the flowers. The staff were very friendly and available to direct us to all of the places we wished to see.

The location is within a few minutes walk of Terminal station and the subway which meant we could get to everywhere we needed to see literally within a few short tube stops. We found Bars and Restaurants on the surrounding streets, when we decided to stay closer to the hotel, the restaurant next door being very reaonable, friendly and delicious too!

The Hotel is not overly grand or luxurious, but it did not dissapoint. However there are many floors and the Elevator is the old fashioned cage type which I found very quaint, but it is well used and we did end up using the stairs to go up several flights on occasions. Though as this was a sight seeing getaway we were prepared for the excercise!

Hotel was perfect for a short city break for a couple or single people! Perfect location!

Cleanliness: EXTREMELY clean. Room was spotless when we arrived and was made up each day.
Size: Small but on par with other European hotels. Bathroom was actually more spacious than the last hotel I stayed in in Italy.
Location: Not the greatest location in reference to main attractions but very close to the metro so it was easy to get everywhere we needed to go. About 7 minutes walk from Termini and just around the corner to one of the blue line stops on the metro.
Staff: Very nice, allowed us to check in early when we arrived at 10am, had a bottle of spumante waiting in our room when we arrived because it was our anniversary.
Air conditioning: Not so good. My boyfriend had a travel thermometer with him and the temperature actually went up while we had the air on. We inquired at the front desk and were informed that it only works between 9pm and 12am. It was 9:30 at the time so it should have been working, but we never really got it to cool much while we were there. It wasn't bad with the windows open at night but I would imagine that it's not so pleasant in July or August. I don't think that a hotel should advertise that it has air conditioning if it doesn't.
Value: Very inexpensive compared to most places in Rome
Other: Very nice roof terrace for enjoying a bottle of wine after a long day of walking. Also, bed was 2 twins pushed together but wasn't very noticible.
Overall: Would recommend to anyone looking for a good value

we stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. it was recommended by a friend who had stayed there 2 years. i was a little sceptical after reading some of the reviews but i need not have worried. we had asked for a quite room when booking so we stayed at the building next door to the main hotel. it was on the 2nd floor and had quiet air conditioning, shutters on the windows, double glazing so was very quiet. we had tv, fridge, safe, hair dryer. the room was spotless. breakfast was in the main hotel which is a 10second walk away. typical continental but adequate. breakfast area is small but there is a large roof terrace to which you can bring your tray. you can also sit here during the day and evening, perfect for after dinner or pre dinner drinks (you can bring your own). staff were very helpful and friendly. location - 5-10 minutes walk from main bus/train/metro station (termini) and 2 minuest from castro pretorio metro. the red (a) and blue (b) line both leave from termine and the blue line from castro pretorio. metro is a cheap and fast way to travel around the city. €4 for a day pass for bus and metro. it can get crowded at rush hour but we could cope with this as we were only on for a few stops. the hotel is in a quiet street but there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. we ate at mama angela's 2 nights. our room cost €108 per night for B&B and i thought this was reasonable for the quality of this accomodation in rome. i would recommend taking a guided tour when seeing the colosseum, roman forum and palatine. you can pick up a tour from the front of the colosseum for €22 including entrance tickets.
