we stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. it was recommended by a friend who had stayed there 2 years. i was a little sceptical after reading some of the reviews but i need not have worried. we had asked for a quite room when booking so we stayed at the building next door to the main hotel. it was on the 2nd floor and had quiet air conditioning, shutters on the windows, double glazing so was very quiet. we had tv, fridge, safe, hair dryer. the room was spotless. breakfast was in the main hotel which is a 10second walk away. typical continental but adequate. breakfast area is small but there is a large roof terrace to which you can bring your tray. you can also sit here during the day and evening, perfect for after dinner or pre dinner drinks (you can bring your own). staff were very helpful and friendly. location - 5-10 minutes walk from main bus/train/metro station (termini) and 2 minuest from castro pretorio metro. the red (a) and blue (b) line both leave from termine and the blue line from castro pretorio. metro is a cheap and fast way to travel around the city. €4 for a day pass for bus and metro. it can get crowded at rush hour but we could cope with this as we were only on for a few stops. the hotel is in a quiet street but there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. we ate at mama angela's 2 nights. our room cost €108 per night for B&B and i thought this was reasonable for the quality of this accomodation in rome. i would recommend taking a guided tour when seeing the colosseum, roman forum and palatine. you can pick up a tour from the front of the colosseum for €22 including entrance tickets.

I had booked this hotel for my family’s first time holiday in Rome. We travelled with our 2 teenage girls and we simply loved it. We were given a spacious and comfortable “red” family room on the 4th floor, as requested, nicely furnished in a classic style. The room was richly decorated by antique paintings and lamp.

The perfect central location of the hotel and its proximity to the metro added to its value: You can reach the Coliseum in just 10 minutes!

The staff was very friendly and we our 4 night stay was just great. Their recommendations for local places to eat were excellent. The only downside about this hotel is that they don't have free local calling and internet access.

Anyway we would stay there again!

I stayed at this hotel just over a week ago, and it is unfortunate that I feel the need to write this review. My husband and I checked in around 4 pm at night, and the clerk, Andreas, checked us in. He demanded that we give him 10 Euros for us to put down for a key deposit. He was not very friendly. I also found it unusual that we had to pay in full upon arrival. The rooms were fine, it was fairly quiet and peaceful, and we shared a bathroom which was not too bad. The problem we had was when we checked out, a different (and kind) employee helped us. We asked him for our deposit back, and he looked confused. They have this binder that they have all the deposits from other people full of 10 euros, but ours was not in there. He said they dont take deposits for this kind of room. He said he would get the manager to email us. She actualy walked in while we were leaving, and he told her what happened. She yelled at him and was VERY rude to us, and said that they dont take deposits for our type of room. We understood that they dont normally take these deposits, but they did from us and we just wanted our money back, instead we were treated with very little courtesy or respect. She told us shed talk to Andreas and email us back, but we never recieved anything. Overall, I wouldnt recommend staying here because, in hindsight, its only 10 Euros, but what happens when more money goes missing, youll likely be dismissed as we were.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Thank you for publishing a review of your stay here at Des Artistes. A client feedback is very important to us whether it is positive or negative as it gives us the possibility to take a better look at the way things are going, the possibility to improve what may need improving and also the possibility to straighten out any misunderstandings that may take place.
First and foremost I do offer my sincere apologies for any inconvenience we caused to yourselves and for any unacceptable reaction of any of our staff member.

I have looked into the matter you did write in your review and spoke to the persons involved, and there seems that there was an unfortunate misunderstanding . I absolutely have not any intention to dispute what you wrote and I only wish to point out the sequence of events that have occurred.
While you were checking in you probably witnessed another guest’s check in to whom a key deposit was required and possibly you thought that the amount that you were asked to pay for your stay included the key deposit, when it was not .Therefore, quite rightly, you asked to have your key deposit back at check out. You can imagine the embarrassment of the reception staff since no deposit was requested in the first place for the room you stayed in.

Here at Des Artistes we do everything with the guest in mind and I am extremely sorry that it appears that probably we were not attentive enough in your instance. I can only hope that we will have another opportunity in the next future to rectify upon what has occurred and try to change your opinion about us. Also as a conciliatory gesture, we will be more than happy to give you 10.00 euro even though no deposit was taken from you in the first place.

Once again on behalf of all at Des Artistes our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience we caused.

I found Hotel Des Artistes in the 2009 edition of the travel guide Routard. They wrote a very positive description of this hotel and I can report that all of it is true. The hotel is elegant and our room was organized with really good taste, with bourgeois furnishing and a plasma tv set.
The bathroom had a marble sink and the deep blue walls created a very relaxing and pleasant atmosphere. All spotless clean.
We had a room in the annexe part that seemed to be a residential hotel in itself. Very quiet and comfortable, with no noise or disturbance at night. We were given an electronic key that we kept with us for the whole stay, so there was no need to ask the reception for it every time we came back from our seesightings. The key opened the front gate, then an inner door and at the end our room. The validity of our key expired on our departure day and with such a security system we felt really safe. Moreover there was an electronic safe in our room where we stored our values.

Breakfast was served in the breakfast room on the fifth floor in the next door hotel section. We used the very pretty roof top terrace for our breakfast, a floor up from the breakfast room. It is an ideal place to have a cup of coffee and croissant while reading a newspaper (you can find one at the lobby area) during a sunny day, and we did just that! For those used to have a full breakfast there is a wide choice of other food such as ham, salami and cheese.

The staff we met there were extremely welcoming, smiling and helpful and some of them spoke French as well! Upon arrival we were given all useful information regarding the city, hotel area and places for lunch/ dinner. Moreover we received a great assistance from them every time we ask for it.

Good value for money. We will definitely come back there and will recommend the Hotel Des Artistes to everyone who seeks a central located hotel of a good standard.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel De Artistes during a weekend trip to Rome in March. We were really pleased with our room at the hotel, it was clean, comfy, great value and well appointed - but the breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. But overall a great value base from which to explore Rome - I can recommend.
