My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Gabriella for four nights in November 2007. We selected the hotel after reading previous reviews in Tripadviser. This was another example of good advice from travellers who have stayed at the hotel.
We received a warm welcome from Barbara in reception when we arrived, she provided us with information maps and advice.
The room we stayed in (18) was furnished to a very high standard with an excellent bathroom. The towels provided were top quality and changed frequently. The owner of the hotel, Romelo was exceptionally helpful in providing us with information with directions to all the places of interest and even making a phone call for us to visit the Villa Borghese Museum, which was very much appreciated. The breakfast room was very spacious and provided a vast selection of various food, as described by previous guests. The location of the hotel is ideal, as it is only within 3 - 5 mins walk from the Termini Station. All the main places of interest are within walking distance from the hotel. We even walked to the Vatican City (We are both in our 60s).
I would recommend this hotel to all visitors to Rome.

Well located within walking distance from Rome Termini. Elevator was out of order so required a one story walk up. Clean and comfortable family run operation. Very good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Pleasant service and hospitalbe management. Good price.

Never go there ! We had the worst experience in years of travels. We booked a last minute stay of 5 days there with Rates To Go. When we arrived and saw that the dirty hall of the building (which contain many differents hôtels), the very small room, the poor state of the bathroom, walls and furniture, the noisy place... we tried to obtain a shorter stay. It was impossible to obtain any other arrangement with them ! The only thing we obtain was to move the second day to another room, slightly better, but having a fantastic view on a dirty yard ! Where you could at night hear students screaming, smell the cigars, and fell a ventilation pushing hot air in our room...We could not open our windows and we where sufocating at night. Add to this a shower with cold water (presented like a thalasso one !), the bad phonic isolation, and poor quality breakfast... We had to pay 210 euros for that ! We where three (2 adults and 1 teenager). In the room, it was indicated 150 euros for two. We never see somewhere printed the price for a room for three... We think we have been seriously robbed !!!

Me and my wife stayed there for 3 nights in July.
We are in out early 30's.
I booked directly through hotel website. 80 EUR / night.

Location:
A short walk (4 blocks) from Termini Station. Very easy to find. From the station exit to Via Marsala, then take Via Milazzo, hotel Gabriela is straight ahead. There are buses in front of Termini station to everywhere in Rome, and also the subway. So transportation is not a problem. Be careful in the area around the station, lots of drunks, junkies, homeless. Probably nothing really happened there but just be careful. One night my wife and I arrived late at about 1am, one drunk (we could see that by the way he walked) passed by us at Via Milazzo and asked the time. We didn't answer and kept walking leaving him behind, then he started shouting insults at us.
In fact, we felt unsafe everywhere in Rome. The first 2 times we used bus someone got their wallet stolen.
Yes, there is a market on the street every morning but it never woke me up.

Room:
Nice room. A/c worked fine. Cleaned bathroom. The fan in the bathroom was very noisy. There's a small TV but we never turned it on.

Service:
No help with the bags. They have some annoying rules like you must pay at check-in, can't use diferent credit cards for the same room. I got a special cash only rate so when we arrived (at around 7pm) the guy at the reception said I had to pay until 9pm or I could go find another hotel. I didn't had 240 EUR cash, so I had to go to the nearest atm wich was back at the station. Not nice. Also at check-in he gave me the keys to the safe and advise me to use it. To me it was like he was saying "hey, we don't trust you and you shouldn't trust us either".
Room was well cleaned everyday, and nothing was stolen.

Breakfast:
Good breakfast. Much better than the ones we got in Venice and Florence. The lady at breakfast was nice.

Overall the hotel is clean, rooms are ok and I think I got a good deal. Didn't like the staff. Next time I will search a hotel in the south area of Termini Station (Via Giovanni Giolitti side), looked safer there.

Just got back from Rome and the Hotel Gabriella. Unfortunately it was a last minute booking so we didn't have much choice. I agree with other reviews it is close to Termini, which makes it accessible to everything. We stayed in the same area last year (different hotel) and found it safe at night with many great, reasonable restaurants in the area. (Try "Al 39 at #39 via palestro)
Now to the hotel review, I must say it was clean, fresh towels/sheets everyday, however our room was like a prison cell!! It was on the inside facing a courtyard, but couldn't tell since the window/shutters couldn't open therefore no external light. The noise at night (from the youth hostel in the basement) and in the morning from the staff arranging breakfast was bad. Also, one day we were back at the hotel around 1pm, and the staff/family? were having their lunch in the breakfast room, loud talking, plates rattling, kids, screaming!!! Tough to have a lie down before going out again after lunch!!
One good thing was the breakfasts, there was plenty of food and variety, which is a rarity in Italy.
Also found the male staff ( son/father etc) not very approachable, luckily didn't have to ask them much since we knew are way around.
All around, I doubt I will return to the Gabriella anytime soon.
