We stayed in the Hotel Brasile for eight nights in December 2008 and we would stay there again. You can take the train from the airport and have a ten minute walk or short taxi from the Termini to the hotel. For excursions around the city, you can catch the metro at the Termini or at the Piazza della Republica, which is a little closer.
The hotel staff was very helpful. They gave us a room on the street side but, because reviews said that could be noisy, we asked for a court side room. They had only one available, and it was smaller than the first room, but they said we could have our choice. We took court side. After five nights we headed for a week in Florence. The hotel stored our extra suitcases at no charge. Upon our return the suitcases were waiting for us in our room, which this time was a relatively large one on the court side. Our rooms were clean and comfortable.
Yes, the showers are small, though the one in our second room was larger than the one in the first. The towels are not plush, but they are large and replaced with clean ones every day. The breakfast was fine and pretty much what we expected (breads, cheese, ham, cereal, etc.).
The one problem was no hot water one late morning.
As a bonus there is a great restaurant on the next corner, Salsamenteria Verdiana. They make their own cured meats and will serve a variety of them on a platter. The restaurant has an opera theme, and often has live music (e.g., three singers and a piano doing Verdi).
