Spent three nights at Hotel Giotto, which were pleasant and enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful. I advise any travellers to go to Battistini train station rather than Cornelia station ,as it is an easier walk and not continuously up hill and takes around 10-15 minutes walk. Found the hotel a little hard to find as side street is not clearly marked however if you take a map, there a many helpful locals who will point you in the right direction. Upon arrival we were informed that there were no twin rooms available so for our first night we would stay in singles. However, we were advised by our travel operator that Hotel Giotto allocates rooms upon arrival so we were not surprised.

The next day the man at reception advised that our luggage would be moved to a twin room that day which it was upon our return. The hotel is clean and tidy and they have a luggage room if your flight is not until later in the day.

Hotel Giotto is an affordable and excellent base to explore Rome, if you don't mind using the local Metro-net to get into the centre everyday, but at 11 euros for a 3 day travel pass who does.
The only downside was the breakfast which is a cold buffet of cakes, bread, cheeses and ham. However there is a store next to the train station where you can grab something to eat.

Overall i would highly recommend this hotel as affordable, clean and pleasant which offers a no frills stay.

I live in NYC and I have to say that, for traveling to another major city, I was very happy with the Hotel Giotto. As a Manhattanite, I see MANY tourists come in and out of my beloved city. Some are more comfortable doing what the masses do and staying where the masses stay. Times Square is just fine, but those in-the-know are quite cognizant of where the deeper, more cultural wonders of our city exist. Of COURSE, this experienced urban dweller wanted to see all of the tourist traps of Rome. But, I also wanted to do as the Romans do. Hotel Giotto was perfect for this.

The hotel is outside of Rome proper, so to speak. I would sort of compare it to staying in Berkeley and traveling into San Fran, or staying in the very hip and posh areas of Williamsburg or Park Slope and traveling to Manhattan. We did everything by bus and train, which was completely accessible and near the hotel. It was so nice because the hotel's location was away from all the tourists - it was more "neighborhood" friendly - and if I were staying in Manhattan, I'd rather stay in the West Village than Times Square, which was a similar experience here. Giotto was located near better, more authentic restaurants (rather than the Hard Rock Rome), was in a quite neighborhood near a school, had a wonderful grocery store within walking distance and a nice, higher end gastronomia (for NYKERS a delicatessen) even closer. The gastronomia sold slices of authentic pizzas, inexpensive bottles of wine, cheese, crackers, Nutella, etc. It was perfect for stocking our hotel for times when we were hungry and places were closed (due to jet lag or during siestas).

On to the facilities themselves. Everything was clean. The rooms ARE small. Seemed everything was smaller in Rome compared to the US thoughg: tiny cars, smaller portions of food, etc. I didn't mind because, again, everything in NYC (apartments, hotel rooms, space on the subways) except buildings and population is probably smaller than most places due to space. Plus, I was always out of the hotel. You're in Rome, get out and see it! When I was at the hotel, everything was modern and clean and the right size and space for what I needed. It had blackout shades to make the room nice and dark for siesta and when I was trying to get acclimated to the time change. The staff was so very helpful and friendly. One night, as we were leaving for dinner, one of the staff members chased us down to give us a bit of important information. His English was not so good, but he wanted to let us know that Alanis Morissette was playing a FREE concert outdoors in the Piazza del Popolo! So nice. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for four nights in mid september.
The location of the hotel is not the best, but a short distance (3 blocks) away there is a bus stop. The bus takes you to the center of Rome. The room was clean but too small. The buffet breakfast was fine and the staff cordial and helpful. The worst part of the room was the bathroom. You don't have enough space to take a shower and you are constantly bumping your elbows against the window that is one side of the shower stall. The shower stall was covered with mold. If I had to do it again, I would find a different hotel.

We were sent here because there was a problem at our selected Hotel Waldorf. Very pleasant member of staff organised a taxi for us to travel the short distance to Giotto.

Lovely hotel, clean and comfortable room, beautiful bathroom facilities, good breakfast, very helpful staff. But no bar or restaurant, as advertised.

Lovely area, but beware - if you're going to be there on a Sunday, buy extra metro tickets as very few tabachi open on a Sunday!

  • Liked — Clean and comfortable room
  • Disliked — Lack of choice of restaurants in immediate area and difficulty with buying tickets for bus/train on Sundays
