My wife and I recently had the privilege of staying at this wonderful hotel May 26 - 2 Jun, 2008. What a great week! The hotel is located on Via Flavia, a quite side street parallel to Via XX Settembre (20 September), only minutes from the Termini (main train station). One is close to all the major attractions either by walking, bus, or metro, yet far enough from the constant noise of traffic and tourists. Good hotels are not cheap in Rome and this hotel was no exception. Remember, you pay for what you get. We received a big, big rooom with king bed, TV, A/C, fridge, and a huge bathroom with tub & shower. Even by US standards, this room was big. It was well appointed with a table and chair, desk with drawers, two night stands, and an armoir (closet). A very sturdy safe was also in the room. The bed was very comfortable. I slept soundly each night.

The hotel staff was the best I have ever encountered. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help at moment's notice. The front desk was open 24 hours a day. Maps were readily available and the staff gave great tips for shopping, which bus or Metro stops to use and available tours and other useful information.

Bring your appitite with you as the morning breakfast was wonderful. One must be there to fully appreciate the assortment of items offered. We never left hungry.

The hotel lobby was always clean, light, and I never once saw any trash either in the stairwells, or bathrooms. the elevator worked with precision and we never waited more than a minute or two if it was occupied.

Being on a side street, it was quiet, very quiet. Blackout curtains made sure you were not bothered by the early morning light, if you were a late sleeper. (Who would want to sleep late in Rome?)

If it is your intent to stay at a full-service hotel that is conveniently located, has a very professional staff, and will meet you every need, this is the place.

There is no restaurant in the hotel, but there are several wonderful restaurants within 1-3 blocks that offer great Italian food and wine. What more could you ask for?

The Bailey's Hotel - You really must stay here to appreciate this wonderful property. We are saving our $$ for our return trip!

The delux rooms are very good. Some of the standard rooms are small. We had the delux room. Breakfast good, not great. Service very good. Location OK. Overall the hotel rates4 out of 5, although our experience was closer to 5.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bailey's Hotel. The staff did all they could to make us feel settled and comfortable. The rooms were excellent and immaculately clean - the linen changed daily and the rooms tidied twice daily. A brilliant restaurant was recommended for our evening meals and taxi booked for us to return to airport. A wonderful stay.

Why should we look anywhere else next time we go to Rome? The room was large, comfortable, elegant, quiet and well appointed. The breakfast was more than adequate and the staff were so obliging and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We only stayed one night but hey gave us every courtesy and service from booking a restaurant through to storing our luggage until 5pm. It is very conveniently located and offers a high level of provision with personal service.
Do phone and book directly rather than use any website because you always pay more that way. Our rate by booking direct was much lower.
An excellent comfortable place.

Bait and switch - No room for us too!

I booked this hotel because all of the hotels I like in Rome were full. Bailey's was not my first choice because of its bad trip advisor reviews (I like to stay at hotels that have at least 90% positive reviews and a solid 5 rating). Still, I couldn't find another hotel without negative comments for the dates I needed. Bailey's looked like the best of the "not-so-good" choices.

I'd heard about hotels in Rome that overbook on purpose and then send you to another hotel. I'd even read about it in one of the Bailey's comments, so you can imagine what I was thinking when they did it to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I quote: "I'm sorry, but the people who were supposed to check out of your room had their papers and money stolen, so they can't leave. We are fully booked, but will be happy to send you to another hotel nearby." HA!!!!! This is exactly what happened to the “No room for us...” Tripadvisor reviewer!

We didn't quibble with the woman at the front desk about the move (I already know we'd been played). We just dragged our bags down the street to the other hotel (Hotel Gambrinus Roma). There was a complimentary bottle of champagne in our room when we got there and an apology note from the Bailey's manager. Still, it was a bit disconcerting. To me a reservation is a contract. and when that contract is breached, it calls the credibility of the hotel into question. It made my traveling partner and I a little uncomfortable--we joked about waking up in the morning in a tubful of ice and one of our kidneys missing.

Bailey's obviously does the bait and switch a lot because when my traveling partner was passing through the lobby later that same day another set of guests were checking in who had also received the "people in your room got robbed" story (they were talking about it to one another and she overheard them as she left the Gambrinus' lobby).

In closing, Hotel Gambrinus Roma was fine. The room was a little worn, but lavishly decorated (some people might call it gawdy). It had a sitting room adjacent to the bedroom--which might have been an upgrade from the standard room we booked. Who knows. So, go ahead and reserve a room at the Bailey's... Just don't be too surprised if you don't end up staying there.
