Located about 5 blocks from the train station, the Cambridge was a great find. (As usual, we just walked in - no reservations). Well-sized room, clean and comfortable with a fantastic tiled bathroom c/w shower and bidet. The breakfast was good - not great, but the hotel's location and comfort level more than made up for it. We'll stay there again this fall when we return to Rome.

My husband and I stayed for four nights in mid September and found our stay much better than expected. This is a no frill hotel so don't expect anything fancy. We think the rating is somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. Very convinient location; only 5 min walk from Termini. There are some nice restaurants close by, we didn't have to look for a place to eat. The room was adequately furbished, a good double bed, wardrobe, drawers, mini-bar fridge, tv and en suite shower/toilet (very clean).
As some of the reviewers pointed out that the air condition was not working. We just aired the room after coming back to our room in the evening and it wasn't a problem for us, though. Good breakfast- a sellection of Italian rolls to choose from, cereals, fruit juices and very good coffee. Staff were all very friendly and courteous. Some of them spoke good English. Other guests were mostly Italian tourists. For a short stay, we would definately recommand staying here.

Stayed at Cambridge during the first weekend of the month.

Conveniently located near the Termini, found the staff very accommodating on check in.

Room was typical for a small Italian hotel. Was in Rome on business so it met my needs - a comfortable, easily accessible, clean place to lay my head.

The breakfast was also typical of small Italian hotels, if you've stayed in Germany, you'll probably be underwhelmed by the offering, but then again, it's Italy, not Germany.

I would not hesitate to stay Cambridge again.

I booked this hotel through verene.com and it was advertised as a 3 star hotel. It's not. At best it is a 2 star hotel so please compare this hotel against other 2 star hotels.

The service provided was fine - they provided new towels each day and the room looked like it was clean. There are mainly 4 issues that I found with this hotel.

The 1st is the inflated rating as noted earlier. It really belong with 2 star hotels.

The 2nd is that they advertise that they have an elevator and air conditioning. But the air conditioner barely works. Air came out of it but it felt more like a fan on low setting. It was so hot and the only thing you can do is take a shower and hope it cools you down. Also there is an elevator but there are several steps that you have to climb first to get to the elevator so this is not the place for those that are disabled or anyone that needs an elevator.

The 3rd is the condition of the hotel. Other reviews had mentioned how the hotel looks old and the furnishings are old which is true. However if you're looking for a bargain I think that is to be expected but what I didn't expect was how poor the room was in. I posted some pictures to show what I mean.

The 4th is the location of the hotel. It is located in a building with at least 2 or 3 other hotels. The check-in office for the Cambridge hotel is located on the ground floor but I don't even know how the staff there can tell who is a hotel guest or not since anyone that comes in might be going up to another hotel. So essentially any stranger can walk in and not be questioned.

I would not recommend this hotel even for someone that is on a budget. Rome is a great city with many things to see. However i found myself in a situation where I would be exhausted from walking around Rome and I didn't even want to go back to my hotel room. It was that bad.

This place advertised individually controled air-conditioning. The was a control in the room, but only tepid air came out if the air-conditioner. Good thing we could open the windows to get some cool air or we would have cooked overnight. Very small bathroom of that Italian design that gets water all over the floor every time you shower. We only stayed here one night after we arrrived from Termini and we left for FCO in the morning. The place looked kind of thread-worn but I expected that being near Termini. It was close enough top walk to from Termini. Even though we only stayed here one night, they managed to over-bill us, charging my credit card for 2 nights. Hopefully my bank will straighten this out.

With all the hotels near Termini, there is no reason to stay here. Pick another one where maybe the shower is better, the air conditioning works, and they don't over-bill you.
