We just returned from a wonderful Italian vacation; we spent four days in Rome at the Isa and cannot recommend it highly enough. The location was perfect - quiet enough (neighborhood reminded me of the Left Bank of Paris) in a beautiful residential area, yet close to the Vatican and walking distance across the Tiber to the main Roman attractions. Modern, Boutique-style hotel. Staff was somewhat helpful but could have been more so... the service is my one "eh" rating. Nobody offers to help with bags and in true Roman fashion, some desk staff seemed more interested in chatting on the phone than helping me while I waited. But that is really minor. There is a computer in the lovely lobby for email checking, and sofas and a TV tuned to European CNN, along with foreign newspapers. Charming older elevator and marble steps lead to modern, clean rooms with small balconies and spacious bathrooms. The real stunner is the rooftop restaurant with its beautiful views and ample breakfast buffets. Omelettes made to order, cereals, fresh fruit, meats, cheeses, giant pots of coffee, yogurt, cakes, everything one could want. It's a beautiful spot for an evening drink (but stick to wine as mixed drinks will cost you your firstborn). There is a terrific-looking buffet six out of seven evenings. We didn't have it but I heard it was excellent - we preferred to find small trattorias for our evening meals. I would definitely stay at the Isa again and recommend it.
