This was really an experience. Coming to Rome for three days it was necessary to find something unusual as an accomodation still not very expencive and "hiltonish". Franklin Feel the Sound is just THE hotel. It not really avante-garde, but it is different. There are drums in the rooms instead of bedside tables, Bang and Olufsen microsystems in the rooms and a large CD collection in the lobby.
Staff is very nice. Breakfasts are decent (though not outstanding)

The location is not that bad as it is described here. There are only two metro lines in Rome - so you cannot use this kind of transport always, What you will use is bus. Several bus lines have stop just near the hotel and plenty of others stop not far from the hotel. So it is not a problem to get there during the whole day. The district is good. Vatican is not far, but it is not close enough to be bored with tourist and catholic crowds.

Good hotel in a good city.

We stayed at the Franklin after reading reviews on trip advisor. I booked it through my travel agent but I did all the research and it would have been just as easy to book it through the hotel. The staff is awsome and all speak perfect English. The rooms are modern and quite large, some with patios or balconies. Extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast room is smallish but breakfast is good. On warm days you can eat on the patio.
It is a non smoking hotel about 15 min. walk from St. Peters. Two blocks from the subway. Good restaurant right across the street and another right around the corner. After a day of touring it was nice to be able to have restaurant close by. The staff extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

This has to be the best value for money hotel in Rome. What a gem! The room was very good, and I liked the slippers instead of bath mat.

The staff are brilliant, so friendly and helpful, and they baked us a cake for our wedding anniversary.

It is ten minutes walk from the Vatican, and you can also catch the tourist buses in front of St Peters, definitely the way to get around. Pay for a day ticket and they do a route that stops at all the main places, and makes this therefore a very good place to stay. It was half the price of the other hotels we looked at that were more central so for a ten minutes walk and 16 euros for the bus ticket this is a much better option. The tourist buses are wheelchair accessible and free to wheelchair users.

The wheelchair access at the hotel is good. They only have one adapted room, but it is on the ground lfoor with its own outside patio area, great for breakfast. For mobility issues I would feel that most rooms will be ok.

The room was a good size. The bathroom a little small, but managable. If you cannot weight bare you will need a stool for the shower, otherwise good access.

We drove to the hotel and with blue badge you can park outside for free. The attitude of local people was very friendly and welcoming. I was not able to do the ten minutes to the Vatican area without at least three people or groups of people stopping me to talk to me (I had my dog with me). It felt very safe at night also. I had no Italian before this trip but by the end of four days managed to have brief conversations in bad Italian.

We loved Rome and will be going back.

What a lovely hotel! The staff were fantastic - very friendly, helpful and accomodating. If there are 3 or more of you travelling, email the hotel and ask them to arrange pick up from airport (Fuimicino) - it is about 50euro, but works out only slightly more than 3 of you getting a train into Rome.
The hotel itself is a calm, clean, comfortable and light place. The bathroom had a blue light with a disco ball and you can play music. The perfect atmosphere whilst lounging in the bath after a long day sight seeing.
We even got complimentary bath robes and slippers!
On the last day, we had to leave the hotel at 6.45am to get to airport and the hotel staff had packed a little breakfast for us to eat when we got there. It was such a lovely touch - we didn't ask them to do it. We really appreciated it.
The hotel is near the Vatican City, so if this is the main purpose of your stay, it is perfect. It is a bit more of a trek into the city centre, but i would stay at this hotel again and again. I have been to Rome a few times now and this hotel is by far the best i have stayed in.

Just got back from a very pleasant stay at the Franklin 'Feel The Sound' Hotel in an area of Rome called Prati, about 15 mins walk North of the Vatican.

This music-themed hotel is modern & clean, with quirky little details which make this hotel stand out from the rest. Revolving disco ball in the bathroom, bedside table drums and Bang & Olufson Stereo Systems in every room, from which you can play album's borrowed from the CD library in the lobby (fabulous idea)! Plus, we each received complimentary slippers! Also complimentary is internet connection, which is a rare treat these days & was very much appreciated (& used!).

Our trip to Rome was a special celebration - my fiance & I were celebrating our 10th anniversary together. We informed the hotel of this when we booked & requested the nicest room in our price range. What we were allocated was better than I'd hoped. They very kindy gave us a lovely room on the 1st floor with a jacuzzi bath & an outside balcony area with table & chairs. The bed was nice, big and very comfortable. The Bang & Olufson stereo gave off a fantastic sound & was also connected to a speaker in the bathroom which, along with the disco ball, meant we had our very own (bathroom) night club!

Breakfast was continental, but surprisingly filling & offered the nicest croissants I'd ever tasted! The cappuccino's were pretty good too.

The location of the hotel was, for me, it's only downfall. If it was located in the heart of Rome then it would be absolutely perfect! However, then they'd probably charge double or triple the price I paid, which was one of the reasons I booked this hotel. I did initially search for a hotel in the center of Rome, but even the grim-looking 2 star hotels weren't cheap. I got what I thought was a pretty good deal from Expedia.com, so I do recommend booking with them. Anyway, even though the Franklin Hotel wasn't located in the busy city center, it was still pretty easy to get to.

We wanted to save a bit of money on transport, so when we arrived in Rome (Ciampino Airport) we took the Terravision Coach (booked in advance for €10 return). This takes you directly to Termini Station, where you can take a taxi, bus or metro to Franklin Hotel. We decided to take the Metro Line A to Ottaviano, which is the nearest station to the hotel. From Ottaviano station it's a 10 minute walk (look out for the downstairs bakery just outside the exit on Via Barletta! It was packed full of eager customers drawn it by the delicious smell of it's bread & pastries!).

At night the area around the hotel is fairly quiet, due to it being mostly residential, but still felt relatively safe. Prati is known for being quite an elegant area, so you shouldn't worry about safety. There are a few restaurants nearby (3 restaurants on the same street as the hotel) & if you walk towards the Vatican, you'll find plenty more.

On the whole, I would recommend the Franklin hotel to everyone I know. A few of my friends have even seen my photos of the hotel & are already planning their stay there!

  • Liked — The funky decor, the CD library & breakfast!
  • Disliked — Location - safe enough, but would have been more convenient if it were in the city centre.
