We stayed at La Griffe for 7 nights from the 7th to the 14th September ’09 for our wedding in Rome. It was as close to perfect as possible. The hotel decor is very modern, if you are looking for what some would call “classic European” this is probably not the hotel for you. If you are looking for a great hotel at a reasonable price with fantastic decor, clean and all the modern touches you need then this is probably the hotel for you. We were at the hotel for our wedding which meant we booked a suite...and what a suite!! Room 610 seems to be the pride and joy room of this hotel and it is clear why. We won’t ruin it for anyone who might be staying there but we were quite blown away by it! Both sets of parents stayed in suites which, although not quite as impressive as room 610, were extremely nice. Again, they are rooms to be experienced as opposed to described but are worth considering. The other guests stayed in the standard room with external view. Again these rooms are what you would expect except bigger, especially considering you are in Rome (where hotel rooms are renowned for their small size). We were also made feel so special here. Everyone was so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. We got the impression that the Italian people really love romance!
If you are getting a room facing onto Via Nazionale be warned, when the windows are open it is a very noisy street pretty much 24 hours a day. It is a pretty major city street. However, the windows are more than effective at keeping the noise out. When they are closed you cannot hear a thing (apart from maybe the odd siren passing).
The vast majority of staff at this hotel are fantastic. We feel we particularly have to mention Joseph and Farid who were so helpful in anything we needed with regard to taxis or restaurant bookings/recommendations etc. The housekeeping staff are excellent. Out room was always spotless and so neatly made up. The room service is good quality and quite fast. The breakfast is not something to write home about but to be honest, in Rome you are not going to find too many places (if any) where you will get a fry-up breakfast. They have nice bacon, bread rolls, fruit, pastries, sausages, tea and coffee.
We had to particularly mention one member of staff who was without doubt the best member of staff we have ever dealt with in a hotel. Valentina was an absolute pleasure to deal with. We met with her 5 weeks before our big day and after only briefly speaking with her on the day (due to the fact that we had to cancel another hotel on this street to arrange booking with La Griffe) we knew we were in safe hands. She put us at ease immediately, not hesitating to show us the rooms that would be available for ourselves and our guests and arranging for us to come back to view types of room that were all occupied on the day. She helped us arrange everything, from transport to and from the Airport to transport for the day to steaming the dress, she was fantastic. It would have been a much harder job without her.
We hope this helps if you are considering staying in Rome or even better if you are considering getting married there.
