Just back from our romantic vacation in Rome, I´m sitting here thinking about how our vacation was almost ruined totally by the ” La Griffe”Hotel.
Unfortunately we didnt check the hotell reviews on this site prior to packing our bags, but rather trustet the Hotels Five star rating and the word ” Luxury hotell in the discription. Luxury hotel couldn´t be further from the truth….
At first the receptionist, greeted us with great hospitality, the only problem was that he couldn´t find a room key for us. Then we found out that one of the elevators was broken. Also it was a big surprise to us that what they gave us for a romatic crib was a room without a window?? A five star hotell without a window, but rather a glass door to the escape route inside the hotell? My wife and me are really not that picky about accomodation but he story was nowhere near the end. To make a long story short. This is what we found out about the La Griffe Hotel.
The elevator didn´t work, and hadn´t been for weeks.
The hotel has no atmosphere at all, but is a Art Deco wannabe Hotel with cheap tacky solutions. The corridors are black and dark, be sure to bring a flashlight. No place for kids or senior citizens.
We never got our own key. But had to ask for help every time we wanted to get into our room. No explanations as to why.
The Bathrooms was terribly small and we never found out how to use the showers.
When you complain, (and be sure you will..) the receptionists will probably turn sour on you and be less interested in solutions to your problem, but rather find out what errors YOU made during booking.
The breakfast was OK, but was served in the basement. No place to go if you suffer from Claustrophobia. Nor was the room if I might add.
The only solution the”La Griffe” presented to us was to upgrade to a bigger room for an extra 300€ a night. Yeah right….
The solution for us was to say thanks for nothing and check out. We ended up in a wonderful bed and breakfast just 3 blocks away. Beautiful view, the room had everything we wanted, taken right out of an old black and white movie….. for 150€ a night.
I will be more than happy to tell future visitors to Rome about that place.
